Iowa snaps four-game skid to Purdue, 70-55

The last time an Iowa men’s basketball team beat Purdue, Jordan Bohannon was a wide-eyed freshman who was still cementing his role into the starting lineup for an extremely young Iowa team in the winter of 2017. Iowa beat #17 Purdue 83-78 in Carver-Hawkeye Arena in January of 2017. IOWA CITY, Iowa – Despite leading for less than 13 minutes, Illinois came into Carver-Hawkeye Arena and handed Iowa their third straight loss. The Hawkeyes fell in a close game, 70-66. After struggling to hit threes in the first half, Illinois was given some open looks in the second half that contributed to their nine made three point shots on the day. Champaign IL—Following their shocking upset of the Michigan Wolverines, the Iowa Hawkeyes traveled to take on the Illinois Fighting Illini ( 3-8,2-6). The weather, 35 degrees and wind gusts up to 28 MPH, played right into the game plan of the Hawkeyes ( 7-4, 4-3). A heavy dosage of the running attack was deployed and it did not disappoint. Both teams started out slow resulting in a scoreless first quarter. It was the specials teams unit that helped spark the Hawkeyes. IOWA CITY, Iowa– The Illinois Fighting Illini (17-11, 7-8) traveled to snowy Iowa City to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes (18-10, 9-6) in front of a paid attendance crowd of 14,831 inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Fighting Illini had won four of its previous five games in Carver-Hawkeye, but couldn’t make it five of six, as the Hawkeyes defeated the Illini 68-60.
