KRUI Interview: Derek Sanders of Mayday Parade

I spoke with Derek Sanders, frontman of Mayday Parade after their gig at Vibrant Music Hall in Waukee, Iowa. A conversation spanning much more than the 20 years of the band, he told me about his latest trilogy release and all the way back to his very first autograph he signed.

Let’s cut to the chase. On Tuesday April 29th, 2-sport athlete, Jameis Winston of Florida State University, was caught stealing $32 worth of crab legs and crawfish from a Florida supermarket. For the charges to be dropped, he has to comply to the civil suite he was issued and complete at least 20 hours of community service. I’M PERFECTLY OKAY WITH HIM STEALING THE CRAB (AND CRAWFISH). Have I mentioned I love the new playoff format before? Not because it’s easy to keep track of before the playoffs (Seth, your thoughts?) but because of the rivalries that pour kerosene on the Stanley Cup Playoff fire. Yes the Bruins haven’t played the Red Wings in the playoffs since the 50s, and there isn’t much of a conflict between Columbus and Pittsburgh, but Rangers-Flyers? Kings-Sharks? Blackhawks-Blues?
