Iowa Spring Practice: QB’s duel, youth arrives, and defense shines

Not since Iowa beat Illinois 19-10 on Senior Day in 2019 had the Hawkeyes played in front of home fans outside of friends and family. That streak ended Saturday morning as Iowa held it’s first of two open practices this spring with fans in attendance. Fans arrived as early as before 7 AM to get the first chance to see their Hawkeyes in person since November of 2019. Many were pleased with the results, but it would’ve taken a natural disaster to ruin the moods of the black and gold this weekend. “Certainly is great to be back in Kinnick … Continued

3 Reasons it was Okay for Jameis Winston to Steal those Crab Legs

Let’s cut to the chase. On Tuesday April 29th, 2-sport athlete, Jameis Winston of Florida State University, was caught stealing $32 worth of crab legs and crawfish from a Florida supermarket. For the charges to be dropped, he has to comply to the civil suite he was issued and complete at least 20 hours of community service. I’M PERFECTLY OKAY WITH HIM STEALING THE CRAB (AND CRAWFISH). Here’s why: 1. He stole the food. He wasn’t GIVEN the food by an “anonymous booster.”  The crazy thing is, I bet this would have been blown out of proportion even more if some … Continued

One of the most explosive athletes in professional sports, an Olympic gold medalist, Russell Westbrook doesn’t just make headlines for his on-court performances. In almost every press conference Westbrook has been known to make fashion statements. Whether it be glasses with no lenses, unique hats, or unusual shirts, he always seems to be wearing something that makes people go, “huh?”. This past Sunday the Thunder announced … Continued

With opening-day for Major League Baseball earlier this week, there was a wide spread of that “this is the year” feeling. What fan base had the strongest feeling of it though? The same fan base that’s had their hopes brought up only to be ruined for over 100 years. There are only 9 teams in the MLB that haven’t won a championship: the San Diego … Continued

Here we go again. Another article about whether or not LeBron James is “better” than Michael Jordan. The typical write-up would include dozens of stats and numbers relevant to both players and their careers; the article you’re about to read has neither. The truth is, it’s not fair to say either player is better than the other. Not right now anyway. Only when LeBron James’ playing career is over can the judgement be made. Until LeBron James matches everything that Michael Jordan did (or goes beyond), he will always be viewed as the lesser of the two players. Even if … Continued

Drugs and Baseball. The two words are becoming synonymous with each other. It seems like “everyone” in the MLB is being accused (and eventually being confirmed) of taking performance enhancing drugs of some sort. The men of the Iowa Football Team were not the only Hawkeyes take on a Big 10 foe on Saturday. The Iowa Volleyball team took on the #24th ranked Michigan State Spartans Saturday night on Mediacom Court in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. After losing in 3 sets to Michigan the night before, the Hawkeyes were looking to get back on track in the Big 10 versus the Spartans. Iowa started off strong with a 6-3 lead and the momentum on their side. The Spartans proved to be ready for the challenge though as Iowa had to take it’s first timeout when they … Continued
