Interview: KRUI With The Plain White T’s

At When We Were Young 2025, fellow Chicago area natives Plain White T’s sat down with me as we discussed how the local scene has changed, their tour with We The Kings, and how Las Vegas scares us all the slightest bit. We started the conversation out by sharing a mutual love of Death Cab for Cutie:

As the crowd warmed up for Detective April 4 at the Mill, there was a definite atmosphere that could only be created by a gathering such as Mission Creek. People spilled into the Yacht Club — bands and concert goers alike. Everyone there had wandered in at some point or other, following the scent of their favorite band or maybe just on a whim to have a peep at some appealing noise they heard from outside the club. With a lineup of Mirror Coat, Gloom Balloon, The Multiple Cat, and the band that everyone seemed to be eagerly awaiting, Detective, … Continued

Sports fans fill out brackets. If you’re interested in sports at all, you fill out a bracket. Ranging from the die hard season ticket holders, to the high school gym teachers who just want something to gamble on. Everyone suddenly becomes basketball fans in March, we all know that. Everyone revolves their life around basketball—it’s the nature of bracketology. . And everyone hates upsets. But from November to February, we want every underdog to win. We loved when Duke, Michigan, or Indiana lost. Not because we hated those teams, but simply because we loved the upsets. We love to storm … Continued

Monday March 25, the Miami Heat took on the Orlando Magic in a game that ended with final score of 108-94, Miami. This game marks the Heat’s 27th straight win and there’s no sign of them slowing down. From a facts and performance standpoint, opinions aside, there just is no other team in the NBA doing what Miami is. … Continued

When most people think of Nashville, the first things that probably come to mind are country music, cowboy hats, and maybe even the hit television show of the same name. But hockey? When the city of Nashville was awarded an NHL expansion team back in 1998, many people were critical of the move because they thought that hockey in the South was something that just couldn’t work. The Predators, however, have proven that hockey in the South can work, when a rabid fan base is coupled with a stellar marketing team that has successfully branded the city “Smashville,” and has … Continued

This week has been pretty hectic for me.  With Spring Break just around the corner, classes are starting to pile on the work and midterms are pushing students to the brink.  But to add to the mess, my fantasy league’s trade deadline was this past Wednesday, forcing me to put down the textbooks so I could put on my GM hat and position myself for a playoff run. With the actual NBA trade deadline passing us without any huge noise, my fantasy league proved to be the opposite as big names got moved and tempers flared.  And lucky for you, … Continued

Sitting at the Blackhawks game a few weeks ago, it occurred to me that the United Center or “Madhouse on Madison” has become – over the last few years – not only one of the best arenas atmosphere-wise in the NHL, but also in all of sports as well. This fact is especially evident when it comes to the rousing rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” delivered by soloist Jim Cornelison and accompanied by the cheers of a sell-out crowd in excess of 20,000 fans before each Blackhawks home game. This tradition of cheering the anthem before each game has … Continued
