IOWA CITY- The Iowa Hawkeyes (4-2) forced a poor shooting night to top the Northern Illinois Huskies (2-1) by a score of 70-49 in front of a crowd of 14,357 on Wednesday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Iowa lead was sparked by an early 16-0 Hawkeye run, capped off by an Aaron White dunk with 11:17 remaining in the first half to give the Hawkeyes a 20-6 lead. It was once again the Iowa defense who wrote the story for the Hawkeyes as they pulled off their second straight victory and stayed perfect at home (4-0) in the 2014 campaign. Iowa … Continued

IOWA CITY, Iowa.- The University of Iowa Women’s Basketball team opened its season Friday night with a 107-56 stomping of University of South Carolina Upstate. Five players scored in double figures for the Lady Hawkeye’s lead by sophomore, Ally Disterhoft who totaled 19 points on seven of eight shooting.   Disterhoft lead the first half charge with 16 of her 19 coming in the first twenty minutes. The Lady Hawkeye’s played stifling defense holding the Lady Spartans to 23.3% shooting from the field and just 22 first half points. Iowa was able to extend their lead by securing defensive rebounds and … Continued

The Iowa Hawkeyes (3-1) and the Purdue Boilermakers (2-2) open up Big Ten conference play inside Ross-Ade Stadium at noon ET today. There are a few headlines that will be interesting to see how things unfold for the Hawkeyes. Like, will sophomore quarterback C.J. Beathard really start today for the Hawkeyes? We think so, but we’ll see. If he does start, will he play well enough to keep the starting job over injured QB Jake Rudock? Rumor has it Iowa running back Damon Bullock didn’t make the trip. Obviously we don’t know until the game starts. I have yet to … Continued

Have I mentioned I love the new playoff format before? Not because it’s easy to keep track of before the playoffs (Seth, your thoughts?) but because of the rivalries that pour kerosene on the Stanley Cup Playoff fire. Yes the Bruins haven’t played the Red Wings in the playoffs since the 50s, and there isn’t much of a conflict between Columbus and Pittsburgh, but Rangers-Flyers? Kings-Sharks? Blackhawks-Blues? It’s like the NHL took a roll of Mentos and put them all into one two-liter Diet Coke. Thus far, the chirping and hitting has been exemplary and for the most part professional … Continued

After a long winter, with hopefully only a few more weeks of cold weather, Major League Baseball is beginning. Pitchers and catchers report first, followed by position players. Namely, Chicago Cubs pitchers and catchers report February 13, and position players report on the 18th. One of the biggest things of spring training is seeing potential prospects that may make the roster out of spring training, or even get called up during the year. Some of the Cubs’ biggest prospects are shortstop Javier Baez, third baseman Kris Bryant, outfielders Albert Almora and Jorge Soler, and C.J. Edwards, who came over in … Continued

Two tributes in one night. That was the tall task the people of Boston faced Sunday, when Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce took to the parquet, the first since their valiant run with the Boston Celtics. Six months have passed since the summer afternoon when the Commonwealth shipped the two future hall of famers to Brooklyn, and the clock has been ticking since for the fans to give their proper thanks. They got their chance Sunday, with two emotional video tributes—one for each player—followed by lengthy, thunderous ovations that had both players grinning. Yes their current team won the game, … Continued
