Alone at the Top

As the final seconds drained away at Kinnick Stadium, Kirk Ferentz was doused in orange Gatorade and handed his place in history. With win No. 206, Ferentz passed Woody Hayes to become the winningest coach in Big Ten history, his understated Midwestern legacy built less on titles than on the thousands of players who call him their coach.

Trapped in the Box

The Hawkeyes fell three points short in Ames, trapped in the same box they’ve always played in. Cautious routes and a passing game that refuses to breathe. Even glimpses of promise, like Gronowski’s 22-yard completion, couldn’t break them free from their rectangle of comfort.

We all hope for the best, but as is often the case, life can grievously be too short. With tragic news comes incredible opportunity. Let’s create a moment – a happy ending to a sad plot. Before the inevitable happens, we can give generations of audiences, an assortment of a surrounding cast, and the two main … Continued

Last year the depth of the Hawkeyes’ basketball team was one of it’s best strengths. This year is no different, especially in the backcourt. Head coach Fran McCaffery addressed the media Thursday for the annual Iowa Hoops Media Day at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, receiving questions regarding the potential players who could start at shooting guard. “I would say it’s an open spot,” McCaffery said. “I think you can look at it two ways. Obviously Josh and Pete would be the logical place to start.” According to McCaffery, both players have established themselves nicely. Last season, Josh Oglesby was named the team’s Most … Continued

The Iowa Hawkeye Men’s basketball season tips off in a month. It seems crazy, I know. If you paid any attention at all to last season, you’re aware of the fact that Iowa struggled down the stretch. Losing seven of their last eight games, which includes falling to Tennessee in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Before collapsing late, Iowa was ranked in the top ten in the country and was just outside the lead in the Big Ten.
