Trapped in the Box

The Hawkeyes fell three points short in Ames, trapped in the same box they’ve always played in. Cautious routes and a passing game that refuses to breathe. Even glimpses of promise, like Gronowski’s 22-yard completion, couldn’t break them free from their rectangle of comfort.

Iowa Falls to Iowa State 16-13 in Annual CyHawk Series Matchup

The Hawkeyes came up just short in Ames, falling 16-13 to No. 16 Iowa State in a rivalry game that slipped away in the final minutes. Despite a strong defensive showing and improved play from QB Mark Gronowski, Iowa’s offense couldn’t find enough answers as the Cyclones snapped the Hawkeyes’ six-game win streak at Jack Trice Stadium.

In the three seasons since Theo Epstein took over as Cubs president, the Cubs have gone a combined 200-286, good for a .412 winning percentage.  However, this was all part of a master plan to completely revamp the Cubs minor league system and eventually make a big splash in free agency, and in the offseason following the 2014 season, the Cubs made sure they let the rest of the MLB know that it was ready to make an impact.  Once Joe Maddon opted out of the final year of his contract with the Tampa Bay Rays, Chicago quickly picked him … Continued

CHICAGO — It was an ugly start, and even uglier finish as the fifth-seeded Iowa Hawkeyes failed to find any sort of consistency and were upset by thirteenth-seeded Penn State 67-58 on Thursday afternoon at the United Center in the second round of the Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament. It was a cold start to the game to say the least for both teams, as Penn State shot just 25 percent from the field (7-of-28) in the opening half, and the Hawkeyes weren’t much better at just 32 percent on 8-of-25 from the floor. It seemed as though Iowa was … Continued

I proudly tell people baseball was my first sports love. I think my first handful of Halloweens, after being dressed against my will as matching pumpkins with my older brother, I suited up as Nomar Garciaparra or Pedro Martinez. I have a vivid memory of getting in trouble during my preschool years. The punishment? I was barred from watching Ken Griffey Jr. and the Seattle Mariners battle our beloved Red Sox. And forget sports moments, winning the 2004 World Series was one of my top life moments. So, baseball, I’m saying this because I care: Our game is dying. The … Continued
