IOWA CITY- After traveling to Chapel Hill, N.C. and upsetting the 12th ranked Tar Heels on the road, the Iowa Hawkeyes (6-2) looked to win their 5th straight when the University of Maryland-Baltimore County Retrievers (0-7) visited Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Sparked by Peter Jok’s two three pointers and an Aaron White thunderous dunk, Iowa got out to a 20 to 6 lead, which came on a 20-0 Hawkeye run. Iowa’s stout defense forced the Retrievers into 15 first half turnovers and the Hawkeyes took advantage, scoring 23 of their 48 first half points off of the Retriever’s mistakes. Iowa took a … Continued

In the words of Iowa’s head wrestling coach Tom Brands, the hawkeyes went through a “trial by baptism” tonight in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The #1 ranked Hawks took the challenge head on though and routed the #15 Iowa State Cyclones 28-8. It was an intense and exciting night. Even though the team score ended up a little lop-sided, seven of the ten matches were settled with decisions. The clear cut domination that Iowa displayed last week in the Iowa City duals was not quite as obvious against the more competitive cyclones. And rivalries flare when the cyclones come to town. IOWA CITY- The Iowa Hawkeyes (4-2) forced a poor shooting night to top the Northern Illinois Huskies (2-1) by a score of 70-49 in front of a crowd of 14,357 on Wednesday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Iowa lead was sparked by an early 16-0 Hawkeye run, capped off by an Aaron White dunk with 11:17 remaining in the first half to give the Hawkeyes a 20-6 lead. It was once again the Iowa defense who wrote the story for the Hawkeyes as they pulled off their second straight victory and stayed perfect at home (4-0) in the 2014 campaign. Iowa … Continued

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa president Sally Mason made news earlier this week when she sounded off on her alma mater. Mason, who graduated from the University of Kentucky, told The Des Moines Register about her concerns. “I’m not proud of my alma mater, that has a wonderful record of winning basketball championships, with students who stay one year to play basketball and are done — the one-and-done,” Mason said While John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats look to run rampant through the 2014-2015 … Continued

Iowa City, IOWA- The University of Iowa Women’s Basketball team won its opening game of The Hawkeye challenge on Friday 97-68 over a pesky Pepperdine Waves squad. Ally Disterhoft got The Hawks off to another quick start, scoring the team’s first five points en route to her fourth career double-double: she finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds. However, The Lady Hawkeyes were challenged by The Waves in the first half as they were unable to pull away. Pepperdine was able to knock down some tough contested shots as well as connect on the open looks they did have … Continued

The Iowa Hawkeyes came out and took control for the entire meet today at the Iowa City Duals. No mercy was shown as the Hawks defeated Baker College 55-0, Iowa Central 49-3, and Cornell College 55-0. The domination that was present can be expressed in any number of ways as far as the statistics go: the hawkeyes had 19 falls and another 6 technical falls in 30 matches, half of Iowa’s matches ended with a pin in the 1st period, and the hawkeyes even had a win by injury default due to sophomore Sammy Brooks taking down Baker’s Bryant Guillen … Continued
