Interview: Set Your Goals at When We Were Young

I sat down with Jordan Brown and Matt Wilson of Set Your Goals while at When We Were Young Festival. The California natives made their highly anticipated homecoming this past February, playing their first gig in 6 years. We spoke about their return to live performances, whats next for Set Your Goals, and how good “One Battle After Another” is.

Coming into this season, the “sophomore slump” question was on everyone’s mind for Johnny Manziel. He came out of nowhere last season and led Texas A&M to a 11-2 season, including a 41-13 dismantling of Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl. He also managed to break SEC records set by Cam Newton and Tim Tebow, as a freshman mind you. But this year there seems to be a new “Johnny Football” over in Tallahassee. Another redshirt freshman quarterback named Jameis Winston has his Florida State Seminoles undefeated and currently ranked second in the nation and likely to compete for a national … Continued

After being down by as many as 20 in the first half, Iowa women’s basketball couldn’t battle back against the No. 16 ranked Colorado Buffaloes. Iowa ended up losing the game 90-87 despite the fact that Iowa played a sloppy first half in their first road game. Samantha Logic did everything in her power to try and give Iowa their first lead of the game late, but came up short finishing with 26 points, 6 assists. Iowa outscored Colorado 52-42 in the second half of the game, giving the Buffaloes their real first scare of the season. “We just got … Continued

On Sunday, November 17, 2013 Jimmie Johnson won his sixth NASCAR Sprint Cup Series title.  Johnson is one NASCAR Sprint Cup championship away from tying Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty for the most NASCAR championships of all time. However, the debate that has sparked controversy for years had more fuel added to the fire when former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb said on Fox Sports Live proclaimed, “Do I think he’s (Johnson) an athlete? Absolutely not.” There is a common thought among sports fans that NASCAR drivers are not athletes and auto racing is not a sport. Why is this? … Continued

Iowa found themselves reaching deep on their bench for help after both Bethany Doolittle and Claire Till both had early fouls, but Iowa still defeated the Stony Brook Seawolves 78-40. “This is one of those game’s we were waiting for as far as the change in officiating,” Lisa Bluder said, “ We were kind of dreading and it came to fruition tonight.” Doolittle picked up two fouls within the first six minutes of the game and didn’t see action until the start of the second half, that required Iowa to go to freshman walk-on Hailey Schneden for nine minutes of … Continued

As I sat in my Madison hotel room Saturday Night, watching the final stages of #1 Alabama bully their conference foes from the Bayou, I couldn’t help but get caught up with the pageantry of the glorious stage. From the bolstering band to the chorus of “Roll Tide!” following yet another Alabama first down, it was easy to see an institution oozing tradition was adding to it firsthand. But what makes tradition? It is the success on the field, the award winners and conference championships that litter the nearby trophy cases. It’s the fight song and chants that echo the … Continued

Oh, Jerry Jones, when will things go your way? This past Sunday night, the Dallas Cowboys — 5-5 and tied for first in the NFC East — looked helpless as they saw Drew Brees and the high powered New Orleans Saints offense put up 625 yards and 40 first downs. Yes, that’s right, 40 first downs. The Cowboys had a huge off-season in terms of making personnel changes. It all started when they fired defensive coordinator Rob Ryan (who by the way is now the defensive coordinator for the Saints) and hired Monte Kiffin to take the helm as defensive … Continued
