Des Moines’ plan to solve its budget crisis: gentrification.

Des Moines is facing the culmination of multiple long standing budgetary crises resulting in its present $17 million annual deficit. Without room in the general fund, transportation is facing cuts, utility rates have been hiked, and agencies reorganized. The city manager Peter Zamansky in January released a proposal to lay out reductions in spending to shrink the deficit this fiscal year. However, policy makers are looking for larger cuts and structural changes to address the city’s long increasing debt burden. Ignore the name. Or don’t, because truthfully the heart of Mannequin Pussy’s art lies in its name. Mannequin Pussy, of Philadelphia origin, gracefully blessed the hall of the Englert Theater for Iowa City’s annual Mission Creek Festival in April. As someone who has been a longtime listener, I was ecstatic when I learned they were performing on day 2. Iowa Defense has 4 picks as Hawkeyes reclaim the Floyd of Rosedale trophy

Iowa’s superior defense proved to be just too much for the Minnesota Golden Gophers as Iowa came away with a 48-31 victory over the Gophers in TCF Bank Stadium Saturday afternoon. Colin Shultz has more. Iowa started two freshman corners in their first game on the road of the 2018 campaign. Both seemed to be up for the challenge. In the realm of college football, the Big Ten is often considered one of the best top-to-bottom conferences in the nation. It is home to 13 Heisman trophy winners, 22 national titles, six NFL starting quarterbacks and currently holds four of the top 11 teams in the AP Poll.   This storied conference is rich in past glory, but the teams continue to make history every year. The Hawkeye softball team made its final long road trip of the year over Spring Break out to Louisville, KY before returning for their home opener this past weekend.  After rainy weather cancelled the Hawkeyes’ first two games, the Hawkeyes padded their win column but unfortunately weren’t able to keep that momentum going through the weekend.
