NewDad on homesickness, fame and sacrifice in their latest album: Altar

Amidst 2025’s exciting alternative rock scene, Irish trio NewDad released their second studio album on September 19, Altar. Expanding on punk and soft rock elements from their first studio album Madra, the band also pulls from shoegaze with the explosive, distorted guitars and airy vocals that build the new record’s atmosphere.

Club América is aiming for its eighth CONCACAF Champions League triumph, and its third in the modern era. But plenty of talent will be showcased on this continent next week. That’s because the CONCACAF Champions League is just around the corner, and while it might not yield the same prestige as the UEFA Champions League, it’s just as important for the clubs involved. IOWA CITY, Ia. – For a long period of time, Iowa Hawkeyes baseball was an afterthought. In the fifteen years between Duane Banks’ retirement and Rick Heller’s hiring prior to the 2014 season, the Hawkeyes had just two winning seasons. In Heller’s 4 years with the program? 4 for 4, plus the team’s first Big Ten championship since 1990 last May. Heller has led the Hawkeyes to two NCAA regionals in his four seasons. Iowa had only made three in the program’s entire history before he arrived. It’s not difficult to see why excitement is at an all-time high for … Continued

A big move in the world of the NFL occurred last week. That move was ignited by the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs agreed to send their quarterback, Alex Smith, to the Washington Redskins for cornerback Kendall Fuller and a third round pick. This trade leans towards Kansas City’s benefit. They not only cleared $17 million in cap space with sending Smith off, they ended the quarterback debate. It is now Patrick Mahomes time. Mahomes was selected 10th overall in last year’s draft and started one game last season. He is now 1-0 as a starter. As both teams are … Continued

IOWA CITY, Ia. – When the Iowa men’s basketball team opened as a 1-point favorite against Wisconsin at home on Tuesday morning, general reaction to Vegas’ opinion was negative. How could the Hawkeyes, fresh off a slaughtering at home to Purdue, possibly be favored to win any basketball game? Iowa defeated the odds Tuesday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, putting together their best complete game as a team in well over a month as they rolled over the Badgers, 85–67. “We watched a lot of film of the Purdue game”, said Iowa center Luka Garza, “Seeing the lack of awareness, attention … Continued

Six Hawkeyes register double figures for McCaffery’s 400th win IOWA CITY, Iowa – You’d be hard pressed to find one individual, one aspect, or one play that changed the course of Tuesday night’s game. Both Iowa and Minnesota have been reeling this season. One of these teams needed to come away with a win. The injury-laden Gophers hoped they were in line for a dire victory. Instead, it was a collective effort from the Hawkeyes that led to a 94-80 Iowa win. Collective and cohesive. Two words to best describe Iowa on this night. How’d the Hawkeyes manage to play … Continued

Freshman’s 4th double-double helps Hawkeyes vs. Wisconsin IOWA CITY, Iowa – Pressure and heightened expectations are hard to live up to. Freshmen in new universities, new states, even new parts of the country often have a difficult time reaching the standards others have set for them. Four-star recruit Luka Garza was no exception to this in the first half of Iowa’s season. The 6’11 big man from Washington, D.C. found himself out of the starting lineup and struggling to keep up with power conference teams Naturally, criticism followed. The team was struggling, and the highly regarded center wasn’t meeting expectations. … Continued

An escape. They’re dramas. Plays. An act on the gridiron. A dance on the hardwood. Sports are so popular in today due to the world needing an outlet. A place to diverge our attention from the everyday life. Baseball, the national pastime. Football, the modern-day gladiators. Athletics are so popular due to their ability to create storylines. Magic vs Bird. Steelers and Cowboys. Yankees and Red Sox. Rivalries drive sports. But, even more so than rivalries, fans fall in love when the sports meet the outside world. Iowa has had the best of luck with these kinds of stories. Just … Continued

IOWA CITY, Ia. – Toughness. Intensity. Passion. Pride. All those adjectives can be used to describe the character and play of Chris Street, the former Hawkeye great who passed away 25 years ago in a car accident during his junior season. In situations like this, it’s important to seek the help of an experienced lawyer here to navigate the legal process and obtain justice for the victim and their loved ones. On Saturday, when the Iowa Hawkeyes hosted a top-3 ranked Purdue team and honored Street – with his family and dozens of former Hawkeye players and coaches in attendance … Continued

The 2018 National Championship game was at a tipping point at halftime, Georgia sat on a hard-fought 13-0 lead over Alabama. The Crimson Tide offense was struggling with Jalen Hurts under center. The Alabama offense had only mustered under 100 yards of total offense the entire first half, as Georgia more than doubled that total. Saban made the gutsy move to place true freshman Tua Tagovailoa under center for the second half, much to the question of those across the country. It turned out to be the move that cemented Saban in the Mount Rushmore of college football coaches. … Continued

IOWA CITY, IA- Coming off a disappointing 7-5 season, the Hawkeyes have been well-represented in the college football awards thanks to the superb play of Josey Jewell and Josh Jackson. While the 2017 season proved to be disheartening–a home loss to Purdue, a last-second loss to the #2 ranked Penn State Nittany Lions, and a lack of offense against Northwestern and Michigan State–the Hawks were able to prove they had strong caliber players on the defensive side. Linebacker Josey Jewell began the success for the Hawkeyes, bringing home the infamous Lott Impact Player Trophy. This trophy represents a player that … Continued
