IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa Hawkeyes defeated the Nebraska Cornhuskers 70-59 inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Monday night. The Hawkeyes reached the 2-0 mark in Big Ten Conference play for the first time since the 2002-2003 season. Iowa (11-4, 2-0) started the first half on a tear as they drove to the basket early and often allowing the team to go 15-19 from the free throw line. Cyclone junior Naz Long led all scorers for the Cyclones with 21 points including five 3-point shots. Hawkeyes head coach Fran McCaffery gave praise to Fred Hoiberg and the Cyclones. “This is a good Iowa State team who has a ton of playmakers,” McCaffery said. “[Abdel] Nader was one of those guys who really impacted the game for them tonight.” … Continued
IOWA CITY, Iowa–The 14th ranked Wisconsin Badgers traveled to Kinnick Stadium Saturday to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes, not only for the rights to the Heartland Trophy, but also for a shot to represent the Big Ten West in Indianapolis at the Big Ten title game. Although Iowa outscored Wisconsin 21 to 10 in the second half, the Hawkeyes fell short, losing 26-24. With a victory over rival Minnesota next week, Wisconsin will clinch the Big Ten West Title.
