By

IOWA CITY – Fox Sports personality Colin Cowherd reigned atop Iowa fan’s list of most despised sports voices for a over a year. He’d experienced some heat from other critics of the Black and Gold but may have found a rival in ESPN analyst Dan Dakich. It’s been a while since Iowa fans heard from Cowherd, the last followed the early season loss to FCS opponent North Dakota State. The noise quieted but arose again when Dakich opened old wounds about former basketball coach Steve Alford. Dakich claims that he “brokered the deal” for Alford to leave Iowa and accept … Continued

Hawkeye Women Prove to be Elite

By

Last night the Hawkeyes Women’s basketball team defeated the Colorado Bison at Carver-Hawkeye Arena 80-62 to advance to the Elite Eight in the WNIT bracket. The Hawkeyes benefitted from 49% shooting from the floor and 36% from deep. The big contributors for the Hawkeyes were Senior guard Ally Disterhoft and Sophomore center Megan Gustafson. Disterhoft had 15 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals while Gustafson had 12 points and 8 rebounds. But the biggest story of the night was Alexa Kastanek coming off the bench and shooting 7-11 from the field and 5-9 from deep, totaling in a … Continued

NCAA Tournament Breakdown:South Regional

By

This is the final piece of our NCAA tournament breakdown, and I believe we saved the best for last. The top four seeds of the south regional have more collective talent than in any other regional, which should make for some very entertaining basketball. Let’s get to it. The Favorites North Carolina- The Tar Heels are about as talented of a seven loss team as you’re going to find, and they are more than deserving of a #1 seed after winning the brutally competitive ACC regular season title. North Carolina accumulated ten wins this season against NCAA tournament opponents, and that … Continued

Hawkeyes Bounced From NIT

By

Iowa City – In the second round of the NIT the Iowa Hawkeyes took on 4th seeded TCU at Carver Hawkeye Arena on Sunday afternoon in front of a sell-out crowd. For post season basketball it was the type of atmosphere that any kid dreams of playing in front of. What kids don’t dream of is committing 12 turnovers in the first half. Led by three steals from Sophomore Guard Alex Robinson (who was receiving the start after All-Big 12 Honorable Mention, Jaylen Fisher, broke his wrist) TCU turned those turnovers into 21 points. That’s exactly what the Hawkeye faithful … Continued

1st Round Games in Milwaukee

By

I had the chance to make the drive up to Milwaukee with my Dad to watch and take in the madness. After paying an obscene amount for parking and slamming a couple of brats down our throats, a must, we made the trek across North 4th Street and up into our seats to watch the four games on our slate.

Hawkeyes Move To Second Round in NIT

By

Iowa City – Any coach in post season play, no matter the tournament or circumstance, can tell you it doesn’t matter how pretty a win is but the name of the game is to survive and advance. The National Invite Tournament (NIT) is no different. It might not receive the 24 hour ESPN marathon, or the tens of millions of completed brackets, but helping young teams develop during post season play is very important, and that’s something the NIT can offer. After Winter Storm Stella pushed back multiple games start times, the University of Iowa faced off against South Dakota … Continued

NCAA Tournament Breakdown: Midwest Region

By

This is part three of our four part tournament coverage series. The midwest bracket is headed by Kansas, the #2 overall seed in the tournament. This regional looks to be the most wide open quadrant of the tournament considering each of the top seeds have more weaknesses than in the other regionals. Combine that with two major conference tourney champions seeded #5 and #7, and we might be in for some chaos. Chaos! Let’s get to it. The Favorites Kansas- The Jayhawks were in a great position to secure the #1 overall seed in the tournament, but they blew it by … Continued
