ICSF Friday- September 5th

It is crucial to preface this article with a warning. Without fail, every single set that I saw during ICSF left me in tears. Both Sunny War and Courtney Andrews’ ability to be completely and wholly open in their art showed in every single second of their performances.

IOWA CITY, Iowa – It’s almost time for March Madness, but for some teams, the madness has already begun. According to ESPN Bracketologist Joe Lunardi, seven Big Ten teams are currently in the field of 68 for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. That is second only to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) who boasts ten as of Feb. 23. For much of the season, the Big Ten has not been given a whole lot of national respect. On Feb. 11, the NCAA Selection Committee released their first ever mid-season top-16 bracket to give fans a sneak peak of where teams … Continued

IOWA CITY, Iowa – A powerful start for the Hawkeyes in their surprise home opener began to show promise for a young Hawkeyes team. The game started off strong for the Hawkeyes as they began the game off with a bang. After a single by Iowa senior Mason McCoy, two wild pitches, and two walks, the Hawkeyes quickly found themselves with bases loaded for third baseman Matt Hoeg. Hoeg promptly responded with a stand up triple knocking in all 3 men on base after barely squeezing the hit in the right field line. Allowing for the Hawks to get out … Continued

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Another sluggish start appeared to have the Hawkeyes well on their way to a fourth straight loss, this time to the hands of the Indiana Hoosiers. The Hawkeyes had other plans. After falling behind by as many as 13 in the first half, the Hawkeyes rallied to force overtime and held on to beat Indiana 96-90. It was a total team effort for the Hawkeyes in this one. After falling behind 9-0 in the opening two minutes, Iowa coach Fran McCaffery called a timeout and subbed in a whole new group of five players. By the … Continued

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Sometimes the ball just doesn’t bounce your way. The Hawkeyes had plenty of chances to keep the game close late against Illinois, but the ball just wouldn’t find the bottom of the net. As a result, Iowa dropped just their second home conference game of the season 70-66. With less than one minute to play in the game, Brady Ellingson and Nicholas Baer each had open shots from the three-point line. Baer’s with 18 seconds left would have tied the game. “I thought we had a couple of good looks at the end that didn’t go … Continued

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Despite leading for less than 13 minutes, Illinois came into Carver-Hawkeye Arena and handed Iowa their third straight loss. The Hawkeyes fell in a close game, 70-66. After struggling to hit threes in the first half, Illinois was given some open looks in the second half that contributed to their nine made three point shots on the day. Malcom Hill led all scorers for Illinois with 21. The Hawkeyes were left in a scoring drought late in the second half as Illinois went on an 8-0 run to put the game nearly out of reach for … Continued

Throughout the past couple of weeks, the Chicago Bulls have been a mess. They did win their last two games before this weekend’s all-star game, but one win was on a bad call, and the other a win against a struggling Raptor team. Despite those two wins, the Bulls find themselves 7th in the conference.         Considering the hype this team had going into the season, for many Bulls fans, this is a disappointment. Personally, I am not as shocked as many people are; when the Bulls went all out and signed a washed up Dwayne Wade and an injury … Continued

The image of Baylor University and specifically their football program has been nothing short of ugly over the course of the past two years. Allegations of drug abuse, academic cheating and sexual assault has ravaged Baylor university and they wholeheartedly deserve the “Death Penalty” sanction from the NCAA. Here’s why. Not only were multiple players accused of these allegations allowed to continue to play football but some barely received a slap on the wrist. The Baylor University Board Of Regents released an official statement titled “Findings Of Fact” that did not include any scrap of evidence of incriminating text messages from … Continued

Coming off a disappointing 3-13 record, John Fox has now led two straight losing seasons in Chicago. There will be no time for mourning in Halas Hall, though, as the 2017 season began after the final game in Minnesota on January 1st. Taking a quick look at the Bears’ injury report during the 2016 season, names like Kyle Long, Zach Miller, Danny Trevathan, Kevin White and Jeremy Langford are among the many that could have made a profound impact on the season. Pile on Alshon Jeffery’s four-game suspension, and Chicago never stood a chance. Barring more devastating injuries in 2017, … Continued

Iowa City – Take a step outside and what do you smell? You could get a whiff of a hopeless romantic on this Valentine’s Day. Maybe you get a false hint of Spring with this unusually warm February weather, but either way one thing is certain and that is, baseball, is in the air. With pitchers and catchers reporting to their respective training camps to prepare for the Major League season this week, Iowa baseball also had their media day this past week as they prepare for the upcoming season. “Our culture is really strong and really good.” Hawkeye Head … Continued
