Opinion: The University of Iowa must do more to protect its marching band and performers

When a student dies under the university’s watch, it should become the concern of the entire student body. As far back as my first punk show as an Iowa City resident, I would continue to hear calls to action to vote against a bill being proposed to spend $125 million on building a new jail within Johnson County. It seemed like a persistent issue with little in the way of progress, as those with any power to stop it were refusing to listen to the pleas of concerned citizens. Concert Review: Mason Jennings

Every band, especially a singer-songwriter, should be able to produce a sense of prestige and conviction while on stage. Mason Jennings’s performance Saturday, October 5th at The Englert succeeded in both of these aspects, as he sailed through a menagerie of melodic, guitar and piano based tracks. He quickly jumped into his set, with the crowd anxiously awaiting his presence. Within the first few songs, Jennings built a lot of respect from the crowd. Show Preview: Teaadora @ Trumpet Blossom Cafe, 11/8/13

Trumpet Blossom Café will be hosting musician Teaadora this Friday, November 8. Teaadora is participating in Mission Creek’s artist residency program and recorded with Luke Tweety at Flat Black Studios this past weekend. Teaadora’s sound is mysterious and haunting with slow finger-picking on electric guitar and a piercing falsetto voice. Doors open at 9pm and the performance will be free and open to the public.
