Manning Manhandles the Ravens

Thursday, September 5th marked the return of the NFL season. The Denver Broncos hosted the Baltimore Ravens at Sports Authority Field. The end result of the game may not have been what everyone was expecting. The Broncos’ quarterback, Peyton Manning, had an amazing season opener. After the first half the Broncos never looked back as Manning led them to a 49-27 victory over the Ravens. Manning’s performance was so impressive that he tied an NFL record with seven touchdown passes. This forty-four year old record-breaking number hadn’t been seen since Joe Kapp’s 1969 performance. Forbes says that every day, despite the fact that healthier options exist, McDonalds serves 47 million people worldwide.  McDonald’s has mastered the art of figuring out and then giving people what they want.  Just like McDonald’s, the NFL is constantly trying to tweak its product to maximize profits.  Because of this aggressive business plan, the NFL will always be more popular than Major League Baseball.  The other half of this situation is that Major League Baseball, just like those healthier options, will always be better. This week the University of Mississippi’s men’s basketball team was eliminated from the NCAA men’s basketball tournament in the round of 32.  That fact is nothing remarkable.  What is remarkable; however, is the dichotomy that exists in the state regarding the symbols used by the university and in the state flag and what that dichotomy tells us about our society.
