The Best Releases of May: Music Staff Picks

Squid – Bright Green Field Long before the release of their debut LP, Squid has been making waves in the post-punk community with their own brand of angular and uniquely provocative songwriting that has set them apart from peers in the genre. With the often deranged and purposely erratic vocal delivery of singer Ollie Judge and the driving pseudo-punk melodies conducted by the rest of the band, there is no doubt the group has emotional, musical, and lyrical potency. That is second only to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) who boasts ten as of Feb. 23. For much of the season, the Big Ten has not been given a whole lot of national respect. On Feb. 11, the NCAA Selection Committee released their first ever mid-season top-16 bracket to give fans a sneak peak of where teams … Continued

The Hawkeye softball team made its final long road trip of the year over Spring Break out to Louisville, KY before returning for their home opener this past weekend.  After rainy weather cancelled the Hawkeyes’ first two games, the Hawkeyes padded their win column but unfortunately weren’t able to keep that momentum going through the weekend. The Hawkeyes arrived in Louisville, KY last Monday prepared to take on the 24th ranked North Carolina Tar Heels and the Cardinals of Ball State, but the rain clouds had other plans for the day and all games at the tournament that day were … Continued
