KRUI’s Riot Fest 2025 Recap

A celebration took place in Chicago this September. The 20th edition of Riot Fest has come and passed, and while still covered in a layer of dirt and sweat, next year’s edition can’t come soon enough.

The Iowa Hawkeyes (3-1) and the Purdue Boilermakers (2-2) open up Big Ten conference play inside Ross-Ade Stadium at noon ET today. There are a few headlines that will be interesting to see how things unfold for the Hawkeyes. Like, will sophomore quarterback C.J. Beathard really start today for the Hawkeyes? We think so, but we’ll see. If he does start, will he play well enough to keep the starting job over injured QB Jake Rudock? Rumor has it Iowa running back Damon Bullock didn’t make the trip. At this point, everybody knows about the crazy week that took place in Iowa City. All Big Ten left tackle Brandon Scherff had his knee scoped, and defensive end Drew Ott was involved in a scooter accident. The same can be said for basketball. Next to football, it is the second highest revenue generating … Continued

The Hawkeye softball team made its final long road trip of the year over Spring Break out to Louisville, KY before returning for their home opener this past weekend.  After rainy weather cancelled the Hawkeyes’ first two games, the Hawkeyes padded their win column but unfortunately weren’t able to keep that momentum going through the weekend. The Hawkeyes arrived in Louisville, KY last Monday prepared to take on the 24th ranked North Carolina Tar Heels and the Cardinals of Ball State, but the rain clouds had other plans for the day and all games at the tournament that day were … Continued

On Wednesday, March 13 at 8 PM, a handful of Iowa City residents entered The Englert Theatre. Instead of filing into the usual theatre seats, listeners were invited on stage. A group of approximately fifty chairs was nestled around a piano, a music stand, and a Mac computer. The stage was otherwise rather bare and decorated sparsely: bricks, pipes, blue lights, and dulled yellow lights created a calm, relaxed environment. Everyone comfortably chatted, visited the bar, and eagerly awaited the start of the concert. Eventually, Valgeir Sigurdsson himself came out on stage followed by Nadia Sirota, a violist with whom he … Continued
