Pokey’s Fest 2 Preview

Pokey’s Fest 2 takes place in Iowa City this weekend from June 7th to June 8th. The DIY punk music festival features many Iowa City bands, along with performers from elsewhere in the Midwest, and a welcoming communal vibe.

The atmosphere in Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Saturday was one I had not been in ever and one I hadn’t seen in a long time. A sellout crowd 15,056 rocked Iowa City for 2 hours as Iowa extracted revenge on Penn State by a final of 77-68. Iowa rebounded from their 78-70 loss to Michigan State on Tuesday night in a big way. It also helped to have CJ Fredrick back in the lineup for the first time since Iowa played at Indiana back on February 13th. “I felt good, a little tired at the start of the game, but I … Continued

The last time Iowa faced off with the historical West Coast power based out of Los Angeles, it started off with a bang with CJ Jones returning the opening kickoff 100-yards for a touchdown to open the 2003 Orange Bowl. It would be the only fireworks Iowa had all night. After Iowa took a 10-7 lead, USC put up 31 unanswered points behind the arm of Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Carson Palmer and pummeled Iowa in a 38-17 ballgame. It was a bitter end to what had been a storybook season for Iowa under fourth-year head coach Kirk Ferentz. Now, fast … Continued

All week moral seemed to be at a low-point for the 2019 season as Iowa yet again whiffed at the chance to vault themselves towards a Big Ten West championship. While the overall outcome in Madison was disappointing, there were still positives to take away. Nate Stanley played his best half of football in the second half and the offensive line handled a deceiving Wisconsin front rather well for most of the game. But after such a disappointing loss, many wondered how Iowa would respond, especially with a 9-0, top ten Minnesota team coming into Kinnick with the Floyd of … Continued

Image Rights: 247Sports DePaul jumped out to a 19-2 lead and never looked back as an electric offense downed the outgunned Iowa Hawkeyes, 93-78. Junior forward, Paul Reed, led the line with a double-double, gathering 25 points and 12 boards on 10-of-14 shooting. The 6-foot-9 Blue Demons frontman buried three of his four attempts from deep, setting the tone for a white-hot shooting display for DePaul. The Blue Demons, whose last out-of-conference road win over a power-six basketball school came against Northwestern in December of 2013, started five-for-six from beyond the three-point line and finished the evening with an 11-for-20 … Continued

A chorus of boos rained down on Iowa at the end of the first half as the Hawkeyes ran the clock out a 9-7 halftime lead. It was a half that had Iowa reach or cross the Purdue 25-yard line three times. It only came away with three, Keith Duncan field goals. Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz shared some frustration on how the half ended for his team as well. “I was a little ticked, we must’ve had a lack of communication on the kick return,” Ferentz said. “I thought it was a returnable ball and we fair caught it, … Continued

It was two hours and 55 minutes…no, not the game length. That was the total time each team spent in the locker room due to severe weather in the Ames area on Saturday afternoon. In any normal Saturday, the lightning delay would’ve been the big story. But, with College Gameday, A quirky game, and a group of students storming the field during the delay, it was an act in a four-part play. The 19th-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes took down Iowa State for their fifth straight win in the Cy-Hawk Series. The final score was as quirky as the game itself: 18-17. … Continued

Image by Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports Iowa blanked Rutgers, 30-0, in front of a crowd of over 61,000 at Kinnick Stadium on Saturday. All three phases had great success, but it was the special teams unit that stole the show. Rutgers punter, Adam Korsak, did all he could to stifle the Iowa offense in the contest, booting seven of his 10 punts inside the 20 yard line. Due to his precision – and plenty of help from his hands team – the Australian marksman downed Iowa inside its three-yard line four times. In fact, when beginning a drive after a … Continued

Iowa’s superior defense proved to be just too much for the Minnesota Golden Gophers as Iowa came away with a 48-31 victory over the Gophers in TCF Bank Stadium Saturday afternoon. Colin Shultz has more. Iowa started two freshman corners in their first game on the road of the 2018 campaign. Both seemed to be up for the challenge. Riley Moss had two picks in Saturday’s game in Minneapolis, and Julius Brents had one interception as well as two pass break ups to help propel the Hawkeye defense and keep momentum on Iowa’s side for the majority of the game. … Continued

Iowa City, Ia.- The Hawkeyes reaffirmed something that many of us have already known: They have a good defense. The Hawkeyes (3-0,0-0) defeated the Northern Iowa Panthers (0-2,0-0) in dominant fashion by a score of 38-14. All together, the defense held Northern Iowa to only six yards of rushing. While the usual suspects showed up, there were some other players that got on the stat sheet as well. “Our defense just in general, especially the front seven, linebackers and then the guys up front, I think we’re developing some depth,” Head Coach Kirk Ferentz said. 18 Hawkeyes recorded tackles … Continued

LeBron James is set to be a free agent this coming summer. The question that everyone has been asking is simple: where will he go? If reports are accurate, only four choices are plausible: a return to Cleveland, or a departure to the 76ers, the Rockers, or the Lakers. Let us examine the pros and cons of each potential move. Staying in Cleveland Pros: Staying in Cleveland would allow LeBron James to stay in his hometown for what would likely be the remainder of his career. This would allow him to theoretically win several more NBA titles back to his … Continued
