I spoke with Derek Sanders, frontman of Mayday Parade after their gig at Vibrant Music Hall in Waukee, Iowa. A conversation spanning much more than the 20 years of the band, he told me about his latest trilogy release and all the way back to his very first autograph he signed.

The “Duck” Hunt for Playoffs Falls Short

In a rain-soaked showdown at Kinnick Stadium, Iowa’s playoff hopes slipped away as Oregon edged the Hawkeyes 18-16 on a last-second field goal. Despite a thrilling 93-yard touchdown drive led by Mark Gronowski, the Ducks’ steady ground game and clutch kicking sealed Iowa’s heartbreak.

Here are some facts to start off with: In 2010 in Major League Baseball, there were 22,113 runs scored in 4860 games, for a total of 4.55 runs per game. Using 2011-2012 regular season stats, the English Premier League saw 1066 goals scored over 380 matches, which comes out to 2.81 goals per match In the NFL, there were 1259 touchdowns over 256 games, an average of 4.9 touchdowns per game. The panda bear’s diet consists entirely of devouring bamboo sticks. Last night, however, The Panda feasted on baseballs. Two Justin Verlander fastballs.Even an Al Albuquerque slider. The Kung Fu Panda, the roly-poly, lovable third baseman stole the spotlight in Game 1. This was supposed to be Verlander’s time, Miguel Cabrera’s time. Instead, it was Panda time. The Iowa women’s volleyball came into Wednesday’s game against Penn State looking to snap a five game losing streak. However, with the nation’s No. 1 team walking into Carver-Hawkeye Arena, a team riding a 15-game winning streak, this would not be the night. The Hawkeyes fell to Penn State 25-15, 25-19, 25-15. In the first set, the Lions came out roaring behind an efficient offensive attack. The Nittany Lions had 13 kills and just one unforced error in 24 attempts.
