Concert Review: Jefferson Starship, September 21st

Jefferson Starship landed in Iowa City’s Englert Theater on Sunday the 21st of September for a spectacular show. As the show began, the projector took us through time, introducing the band’s long history and members that shaped their legacy, with pictures and videos eliciting our minds’ imagination to the past lives of the other 99% of the room. It. Was. AWESOME.

Devyn Marble is hurt. At least, we thought so. There has been talks all week about Marble and his turf toe injury and if this was slowing him down at all.  He put all the speculation to rest with his 21 point outburst Saturday night in Iowa City where he led the Hawkeyes to a 71-57 win over the Northwestern Wildcats.  Marble wasted no time getting in on the action as he started the game off with a monster dunk to give the Hawkeyes the lead. “He was spectacular,” Fran McCaffery said of Marble’s play. With all apologies to those with February birthdays, the second month of the calendar year can be pretty dreary. Following the Super Bowl and the end of football, fans are still knee deep in snow in many cities, along with whipping winds and invincible black ice. Now two weeks before the All-Star break the Celtics stand at a record of 24-23 which is 8th in the … Continued

You should have seen it. When I first walked into the building, my eyes went straight to the banners surrounding the stage. It was a humbling experience, being among such extraordinary people in a thrilling environment. For the short time I was there, seeing throngs of people in jubilation at what was happening in front of them was incredibly unique. Dance Marathon at Iowa is a big deal. Many boast it is the second largest of its kind in the nation, second to the event in Happy Valley at Penn State. The banners? Homemade pillowcases decorated for individual children battling … Continued

When someone thinks about Major League Baseball, usually the first division to come to mind is the American League East. Once someone thinks of the American League East, they think of the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. This is for good reason too because these are two of the most historic franchises in all of sports. But times are definitley changing and so is the AL East. The Yankees and the Red Sox are still going to generate a great deal of buzz because of who they are, but there is a very good chance that neither … Continued
