Trapped in the Box

The Hawkeyes fell three points short in Ames, trapped in the same box they’ve always played in. Cautious routes and a passing game that refuses to breathe. Even glimpses of promise, like Gronowski’s 22-yard completion, couldn’t break them free from their rectangle of comfort.

Despite a strong defensive showing and improved play from QB Mark Gronowski, Iowa’s offense couldn’t find enough answers as the Cyclones snapped the Hawkeyes’ six-game win streak at Jack Trice Stadium.

The Grayt Team: Grayson Chapeau’s Story

At just 15 years old, Grayson Chapeau has spent nearly his entire life in a fight he never chose, against an inoperable brain tumor. But in the stands of a summer-league baseball team, he’s become something more: a symbol of joy, resilience, and a small town’s beating heart.

Earlier last week, I was on KRUI’s radio show “Sports Squawk” (Wednesday’s 1-2pm) and the question was posed “What are you most excited for about the MLB season?”  After a brief second, I blurted out, “October.”  That’s right.  The thing I am most excited for is the end of the season.  After the shock in the studio had completely set in, I proclaimed, “I vow not to watch a single minute of baseball this year.”  Now, while I realize that I can’t really avoid replays and highlights on TV, I will not sit down to watch TV with the intent … Continued

Since game one of last year’s 76ers versus Bulls playoff matchup, the question on every Chicago sports fans mind is the same. “When is Derrick Rose coming back?” The Windy City Assassin has been noticeably gone from the Bulls lineup for close to 10 months, and now his return may be longer than expected. After Coach Fran McCaffery stated that junior Melsahn Basabe had earned a starting spot on the roster, Basabe was put to use, replacing Anthony Clemmons as a starter. Now that he has started four games, we can examine some of his play and judge the move. Iowa is 2-2 in those games with the two losses coming against a ranked Minnesota team and a double overtime loss in Madison, Wisconsin against the Badgers.  He’s averaging 21 minutes now, not far from where he was before. One thing about his stat line’s that has changed though is his FGA. The presence … Continued

With the 2014 FIFA World drawing closer International teams all over the world are preparing and practicing in hopes to Qualify, including the United States Mens National Team (USMNT). However, the chances for the USMNT to qualify are not looking so bright after a sickening 2-1 loss to Honduras last Wednesday  which proposes the question is it a lack of experience or a lack of talent that made the USMNT look so horrendous in Honduras. The US is by no means considered a top soccer country in the world on the mens side, but they still are expected by many to … Continued
