Concert Review: Jefferson Starship, September 21st

Jefferson Starship landed in Iowa City’s Englert Theater on Sunday the 21st of September for a spectacular show. As the show began, the projector took us through time, introducing the band’s long history and members that shaped their legacy, with pictures and videos eliciting our minds’ imagination to the past lives of the other 99% of the room. It. Was. AWESOME.

The Hawkeye softball team made its final long road trip of the year over Spring Break out to Louisville, KY before returning for their home opener this past weekend.  After rainy weather cancelled the Hawkeyes’ first two games, the Hawkeyes padded their win column but unfortunately weren’t able to keep that momentum going through the weekend. The Hawkeyes arrived in Louisville, KY last Monday prepared to take on the 24th ranked North Carolina Tar Heels and the Cardinals of Ball State, but the rain clouds had other plans for the day and all games at the tournament that day were … Continued

When most people think of Nashville, the first things that probably come to mind are country music, cowboy hats, and maybe even the hit television show of the same name. But hockey? When the city of Nashville was awarded an NHL expansion team back in 1998, many people were critical of the move because they thought that hockey in the South was something that just couldn’t work. The Predators, however, have proven that hockey in the South can work, when a rabid fan base is coupled with a stellar marketing team that has successfully branded the city “Smashville,” and has … Continued

The game was much closer than the final score of 75-63 might have indicated. The Hawkeyes seemed unable to pull away from the Stony Brook Seawolves, but the fans are not going to remember the somewhat sloppy play of the Hawkeyes. They will only remember the outcome, which results in Iowa’s third trip to the NIT Quarterfinal round in matchup with either Virginia or St. John’s. From the beginning, it seemed like the Hawkeyes were going to come out strong and dictate the pace of the game. Sophomore Aaron White put down a dunk that set Carver into an early … Continued

Entering the 2012-2013 NBA season, many of the basketball pundits attempted to predict whether or not any Eastern Conference team could dethrone LeBron James and the World Champion Miami Heat. Some looked towards Boston, the gritty veterans that nearly defeated the Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals last May, if not for two historic performances from James to supplant the Celtics. Others felt that the Chicago Bulls, with the return of their herculean point guard, Derrick Rose, had the frontcourt size to pose problems for the versatile Heat. I firmly believed that the true challengers dwelled in the City of … Continued

Brian Urlacher. The name is synonymous with Bears football. He has been a part of the organization since he entered the NFL in the 2000 as the ninth pick in the 1st round. As a Chicago Bears fan, I was disappointed (to say the least) when I read that Urlacher became a free agent because he and his team of 13 years could not reach a contract agreement for the upcoming season. The leadership he has provided on and off the field, the level of morale he has helped maintain, and the impressive career statistics he has achieved would leave … Continued
