Under the Table: George’s Buffet

George’s Buffet is an unassuming dive bar sat just off of the one-way, westbound, Market Street. The small structure is saddled between an alley leading back to another side street and a modern imposing building housing The Webster (a high-end feature in Iowa City’s restaurant scene) on the corner of North Linn Street. Further up the road is the Bluebird’s parking lot, and its corresponding classic diner.

Interview: Set Your Goals at When We Were Young

I sat down with Jordan Brown and Matt Wilson of Set Your Goals while at When We Were Young Festival. The California natives made their highly anticipated homecoming this past February, playing their first gig in 6 years. We spoke about their return to live performances, whats next for Set Your Goals, and how good “One Battle After Another” is.

Each year college football is filled with upsets, dark horses, front runners and thrillers, and his season is no different. With a little over half of the season played, we have seen the mighty fall, teams climb their way up the polls, and unknowns become household names in just a matter of weeks. Starting up a new season is never easy for a team that just won the Stanley Cup in the National Hockey League.  It is no secret that winning the coveted trophy back to back years is a challenge.  In fact, no team has done so since the Detroit Red Wings did it in the 1997 and 1998 seasons.  For the Blackhawks, they know the challenges they face with the new season, as many of those on the 2013 championship team were also on the 2010 team.  Led by star players such as Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, Duncan Keith, and Marian … Continued

Morris is on the Bednarik and Butkus watch list, along with many possible Big Ten honors to come.   He had a critical fumble recovery when Northwestern was driving inside Iowa’s 40.  He kept coming with constant pressure on the QB, illustrated by his two sacks in Saturday’s game. After his his career at Iowa ends, he’ll be talked about with some of the great linebackers like Tippett, Station, and Hodge. He will also have the chance to play on Sunday along … Continued

Eli Manning and New York Giant got their first win of the season last night to the mistake-prone Minnesota Vikings. The Giants won their first game with a score of 23-7, practically stuffing the Vikings both defensively and offensively. The two teams matched up in a previously thought to be a good game, given both of their NFL records were lacking, but turned out that the Giants would be in control the whole time. Once again the Vikings would let their fans down and prove the difficulty of getting things started for the offense and keeping the Giants tame while … Continued

Take aside the two Stanley Cup victories in the past four seasons and it becomes very difficult to find many positives city’s sports teams. The Bulls are still feeling the impact of the Derrick Rose’s torn ACL in the 2012 playoffs. The Cubs and White Sox combined for 195 losses this past season and the Cubs are looking for a new manager once again. It seemed like the Bears, with the hiring of offensive minded head coach Marc Trestman would reverse the team’s fortunes. After starting the season 4-2, the Bears headed to the nation’s capitol and looked to improve … Continued
