ICSF Friday- September 5th

It is crucial to preface this article with a warning. Without fail, every single set that I saw during ICSF left me in tears. Both Sunny War and Courtney Andrews’ ability to be completely and wholly open in their art showed in every single second of their performances.

The MVP race this year has been much closer than those in past years. The season has been full of historically great ones, most notably with Russell Westbrook’s run averaging a triple-double for a whole season. The race is so tight that I will only be talking about the five front runners, but there are still a few dark horses that will go unmentioned.   LeBron James Case For: What’s there left to be said about The Chosen One? He is what many believe to be the greatest basketball player in the world, but that’s not enough to win the MVP. … Continued

For full coverage of Major League Soccer, visit mlssoccer.com    Recap of Nationally Televised MLS Games on Opening Weekend 2017   By Nick Vittore   The old adage is that setting a good first impression is important, and while first impressions don’t say everything, they left food for thought in Major League Soccer this weekend. Here’s what we witnessed on national television during the opening weekend in America’s top-flight soccer league.   The Season Kicked Off With a Bang (Portland Timbers 5, Minnesota United 1) Minnesota United kicked off its MLS existence by traveling … Continued

Video games in the recent age have had a very small number of companies control the entire sports market. EA Sports and 2K Sports are juggernauts in their own rights. But there was once a company that made games that were simple, fun and uber-competitive: Humongous Entertainment. They made “Pajama Sam” and “Putt-Putt” as well as many other franchises. However, the one franchise HE is widely known for is their “Backyard” sports editions. Baseball, Football, Basketball. All sorts of sports full of kids that are short and from port to port. A particular game that I grew fond of over … Continued

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Sixteen days ago, any hopes the Iowa Hawkeyes had of making the NCAA Tournament seemed to have vanished. A four-point loss at home to Illinois on Feb. 18 was the team’s third straight loss, and the remaining schedule was not exactly favorable. The schedule didn’t get easier, but the Hawkeyes did get better. After beating Indiana 96-90 in overtime, Iowa had to hit the road for two games in a row, both versus ranked opponents. First, the Hawkeyes blew then-24th-ranked Maryland out of their own gym. Next, they took down #22 Wisconsin thanks to a three-pointer … Continued

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Hawkeyes were playing at full capacity going (2-1) this weekend at the DQ Classic. The Hawkeyes had a closer than wanted (7-6) win against Hawaii, a surprising (7-3) win against Oral Roberts, and a close (6-3) loss against Minnesota.   Weekend Summary:   The first game of the weekend against Hawaii featured the Iowa batters once again being on fire as they chalked up a season high 17 hits and 7 runs with 2 HRs. The final of this game wasn’t a real representation of how this game went as the score was 7-3 going … Continued

Staying Away from the White House is Only a Missed Opportunity IOWA CITY, Iowa – It isn’t the popular opinion, but all of the Patriots should make the White House visit. If it isn’t for something else planned, there are only reasons for the players to go meet President Trump. The twist is that by attending they could still convey a message, and possibly a significantly more powerful one. Earlier this week the University of Iowa Athletic Department held a town hall meeting for its student-athletes. The focus on the meeting, discussing diversity and inclusion. As thoughts were shared, the … Continued

Time to get excited, because the World Baseball Classic is back in action. Many stars from the MLB are committing to their respective countries or heritages, as this may be the most profiled World Baseball Classic to date. Some stars include Manny Machado of the Baltimore Orioles (Dominican Republic), Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros (Venezuela), Adrian Gonzalez of the Los Angeles Dodgers (Mexico), and Nolan Arenado of the Colorado Rockies (USA). While most are excited that baseball is back and would rather wait for the MLB season to start, hear me out. The World Baseball Classic is a great … Continued

IOWA CITY, Iowa – After a successful (2-1) weekend in Alabama, the Hawkeyes are now officially above .500. Going into the week, Iowa was (1-2) hoping to recover from last weekend’s disappointing series with University of South Florida. The Hawkeyes did just that with a powerful win over Loras College on Wednesday, with an even better chance to improve at the Hoover Classic. The Hawkeyes’ bats were once again alive after outscoring their opponents 26-13, with 31 hits and 3 home runs over the three games. Although the defense had only been strong in a couple of games, it was … Continued

With the Oscars tomorrow, I thought it was an appropriate time for me to release my top five all-time favorite sports movies which in case you want to be part of, just click to see how you can become an actress in Orlando. I did not use any sort of complicated scientific formula to come up with them. This is just a list of my five favorite sports films. I believe all of these films do a great job portraying their respective sport, and showing that often, sports are much more than just a game. Trouble With the Curve I … Continued
