Tuesday night’s game was a classic non-conference mismatch between the Big Ten, 22nd-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes and the Catamounts of Western Carolina of the Southern Conference. Cook reaches 1,000 point milestones as Hawkeyes tame Panthers

There was no question about it, from start to finish, Iowa dominated the lowly Alabama State Jaguars from the Southwest Athletic Conference. Hawkeyes use defense to beat UMKC

A big question mark for Iowa coming into the 2018-19 season was how much they improved defensively. Last season, the Hawkeyes were one of the worst teams defensive in the Power 6 conferences in college basketball, with only Oregon State having a worse rating according to Ken Pomeroy’s rankings.   The 2018 National Championship game was at a tipping point at halftime, Georgia sat on a hard-fought 13-0 lead over Alabama. The Crimson Tide offense was struggling with Jalen Hurts under center. Tyler Cook and Luka Garza stood tall metaphorically and literally as the two Iowa posts combined for 42 of the Hawkeye’s 96 points in their 96-64 victory over Division II foe, Belmont Abbey. Cook showed off his high-flying exploits several times as he soared in for many dunks against the over-matched Crusader posts.
