Iowa Basketball: How is Melsahn Basabe performing as a starter?

After Coach Fran McCaffery stated that junior Melsahn Basabe had earned a starting spot on the roster, Basabe was put to use, replacing Anthony Clemmons as a starter. Now that he has started four games, we can examine some of his play and judge the move. Iowa Basketball: After Blowout Loss, Olaseni Shines Through as Positive

The Michigan Wolverines blew out the Iowa Hawkeyes men’s basketball team 95-67 in Ann Arbor on Sunday, but one positive to take from it was the play from Gabriel Olaseni. He played 14 minutes and racked up 8 points, 2 rebounds and 1 block in the second Big Ten game for the Hawkeyes. Iowa Wrestling Takes Down Iowa State 32-3

The Iowa wrestling team took care of business against their in-state rivals, the Iowa State Cyclones, in their dual match at Carver-Hawkeye Arena 32-3. The Hawkeyes made it look easy by winning all but one matchup. Iowa came into the dual 6-0 and looking for a final tune-up before taking on a ranked opponent. It proved to be a successful one, and the night was dominated by the Hawkeyes, not letting up on the Cyclones and embarrassing the in-state rival who has seen a significant drop off since losing Cael Sanderson as their head coach. Iowa survives scare against Gardner-Webb, 65-56

The Iowa men’s basketball team survived a scare from the Gardner-Webb University Runnin’ Bulldogs 65-56 after trailing by 23 in the first half. The Hawkeyes started the second half with a 13-0 run and outscored Gardner-Webb 47-18 in the 2nd half. The struggle from the free-throw line continues though, Iowa was 21-32 from the line on the game and is shooting 66% on the season. The first half saw Devyn Marble and Mike Gesell held scoreless and the Hawkeyes commit 11 turnovers. They only had five total field goals at halftime.
