Alone at the Top

As the final seconds drained away at Kinnick Stadium, Kirk Ferentz was doused in orange Gatorade and handed his place in history. With win No. 206, Ferentz passed Woody Hayes to become the winningest coach in Big Ten history, his understated Midwestern legacy built less on titles than on the thousands of players who call him their coach.

Trapped in the Box

The Hawkeyes fell three points short in Ames, trapped in the same box they’ve always played in. Cautious routes and a passing game that refuses to breathe. Even glimpses of promise, like Gronowski’s 22-yard completion, couldn’t break them free from their rectangle of comfort.

Devyn Marble is hurt. At least, we thought so. There has been talks all week about Marble and his turf toe injury and if this was slowing him down at all.  He put all the speculation to rest with his 21 point outburst Saturday night in Iowa City where he led the Hawkeyes to a 71-57 win over the Northwestern Wildcats.  Marble wasted no time getting in on the action as he started the game off with a monster dunk to give the Hawkeyes the lead. “He was spectacular,” Fran McCaffery said of Marble’s play. Evans, a starting forward for the now Brooklyn Nets, discounted the Miami Heat’s championship during … Continued

I think the Hawkeyes cleared up any doubt that people had about their 11-2 start to the season, unfortunately for them, it came in a loss to nationally ranked Indiana, 69-65. The young Hawkeyes appeared ready for the #5 ranked Hoosiers right from the opening tip as Adam Woodbury shut down Cody Zeller, a potential Player of the Year candidate in the NCAA, on the first two possessions of the game.  Woodbury seemed to be a rock on the defensive end early in the game, however it was a different story on the offensive side.  He missed 2 shots from … Continued

The first half wasn’t exactly the prettiest thing anybody watching the Iowa-Central Michigan game on Monday night at Carver Hawkeye Arena had seen. The Hawkeyes struggled to score in the first half, shooting only 35 percent from the field and 20 percent from behind the arc. Fortunately for the Hawkeyes, so did the Chippewas, who shot only 28 percent from the field and 35 percent from behind the arc. The Hawkeyes trailed early in the game 5-4 at the under 16 minute media break, with Aaron White having all four points for the Hawkeyes.  Turnovers were a big part of … Continued
