The Iowa Hawkeyes men’s basketball team finally made the national sports’ talking head show cycle this week. It would be a pleasant idea to think that they were in the news because they just came off what was probably their best two game stretch of the season, blowout victories on the road against Michigan and at home against then 16th ranked Maryland. IOWA CITY, Iowa.- The University of Iowa Women’s Basketball team opened its season Friday night with a 107-56 stomping of University of South Carolina Upstate. Five players scored in double figures for the Lady Hawkeye’s lead by sophomore, Ally Disterhoft who totaled 19 points on seven of eight shooting. Disterhoft lead the first half charge with 16 of her 19 coming in the first twenty minutes. The Lady Hawkeye’s played stifling defense holding the Lady Spartans to 23.3% shooting from the field and just 22 first half points.
