Alone at the Top

As the final seconds drained away at Kinnick Stadium, Kirk Ferentz was doused in orange Gatorade and handed his place in history. With win No. 206, Ferentz passed Woody Hayes to become the winningest coach in Big Ten history, his understated Midwestern legacy built less on titles than on the thousands of players who call him their coach.

Trapped in the Box

The Hawkeyes fell three points short in Ames, trapped in the same box they’ve always played in. Cautious routes and a passing game that refuses to breathe. Even glimpses of promise, like Gronowski’s 22-yard completion, couldn’t break them free from their rectangle of comfort.

Let’s cut to the chase. On Tuesday April 29th, 2-sport athlete, Jameis Winston of Florida State University, was caught stealing $32 worth of crab legs and crawfish from a Florida supermarket. For the charges to be dropped, he has to comply to the civil suite he was issued and complete at least 20 hours of community service. I’M PERFECTLY OKAY WITH HIM STEALING THE CRAB (AND CRAWFISH). If there is a bias against west coast and southeastern NCAA softball teams, no one told the Hawkeyes this past weekend. The University of Iowa’s softball team went out to the Easton Invitational in Fullerton, California this weekend to be the fifth team in the tournament.  The field of Iowa’s opponents included CSU-Bakersfield, the host school Cal-State Fullerton, #24 Oregon State and #16 Stanford. Instead of getting to play the unranked teams in a warm-up fashion for the ranked teams, the Hawkeyes went head first into the gauntlet and opened up the tournament on Friday afternoon with #16 Stanford.  Coming … Continued

By Jeremy Blumberg The bottom five… it’s a long way to the top.   5. Kicking Off New Rules: One of the rules implanted into the NFL at the owner’s meetings was that the Kickoff will now start from the 35 yard line.  The whole point of this rule was to eliminate wedge blocking to reduce the number of injuries.  But if that is the case, why is wedge blocking still allowed?  Last year, a rule was added stating that no more than 3 players could be placed to form a wedge, in an effort to prevent injuries.  If the … Continued
