ICSF Friday- September 5th

It is crucial to preface this article with a warning. Without fail, every single set that I saw during ICSF left me in tears. Both Sunny War and Courtney Andrews’ ability to be completely and wholly open in their art showed in every single second of their performances.

As most of the State of Iowa knows by now, Iowa and Iowa State men’s basketball teams will face off December 13th on ESPNU. An interesting tidbit is that the dorms in Iowa City don’t actually get ESPNU, so I’d make plans accordingly to see this can’t miss game. Below is a break down of the teams and looking forward. Iowa Iowa has coasted through their non-conference schedule so far outside of the Nebraska-Omaha game. They have put up at least 80 points in every game. They are just outside the rankings of the AP top 25 poll. Iowa is … Continued

The University of Iowa woman’s basketball team started their 2013-2014 season Friday night hosting the Hawkeye Challenge at Carver-Hawkeye arena. Iowa faced off against UC Riverside a team from California looking to upset the Hawks on their own court. The game was fast paced and both teams had their equal share of mistakes that could have been crucial in how the game flowed. The Hawkeye starting lineup consisted of Kali Peschel, Bethany Doolittle, Melissa Dixon, Theairra Taylor, and Samantha Logic. Starting off with winning the jump ball, the Hawkeyes were early to score with an assist by Samantha Logic to … Continued

Iowa played pitifully against Indiana in the first half, and despite that some experts are saying that Iowa should be in the tournament. The Big Ten is the strongest conference in the nation so far this year, but Iowa sits at 18-11 and 7-9 in the Big Ten with only one game to go in conference. Yes, Iowa has lost a lot of close games, but winning those games are a quality of a tournament team something that Iowa probably isn’t. CBS Sports’ Doug Gottlieb said he thinks Iowa will be the eighth team in the tournament from the Big … Continued

After a couple of months off for the lull between semesters the men and women of the University of Iowa’s baseball and softball teams took part in public events to introduce the coaches and athletes to the fans. The Hawkeye Softball team hosted its annual “Meet The Hawks” night on January 29th at the Indoor Practice Facility.  This year was the first time the event was held in the new facility and also the first time the event featured drills for younger players.  The event opened with the team running through defensive drills for the fans present.  After the team … Continued

The Michigan Wolverines blew out the Iowa Hawkeyes men’s basketball team 95-67 in Ann Arbor on Sunday, but one positive to take from it was the play from Gabriel Olaseni. He played 14 minutes and racked up 8 points, 2 rebounds and 1 block in the second Big Ten game for the Hawkeyes. Those stats may not jump off the page, but compared to the 5 minutes and 1.4 points per game he averaged last year it’s a progression that is very welcome and needed depth at the center position. Coming into the year most people thought the center position … Continued

Saturday Games: Purdue @ MSU Purdue is coming off of a home victory against No. 11 Illinois this week after a terrific performance from Terone Johnson who led the Boilermakers in points, rebounds and assists.  They’ll need another great performance from him to even have a chance against a good Michigan State team. Prediction: MSU 72 Purdue 62 Ohio State @ Illinois This is the key game of the weekend for the Big Ten. It’ll show us whether Illinois is going to do the same fading it did last season, or whether their loss to Purdue was just a fluke. … Continued

One yard. That’s all Iowa needed to keep its offensive drive going with about five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Yes, the Hawkeyes did have 4th down coming up, but it was just one yard to gain in order to potentially tie or take the lead. Iowa ran up to the line of scrimmage, ready to go. Then, there was a stoppage in play. An officials’ review on the previous play stopped the game momentarily, and Iowa rescinded its previous decision to go for it. Head coach Kirk Ferentz decided against it. The Hawkeyes punted and Indiana still led, 24-21. The … Continued
