Iowa Wraps the Bowtie on 2025 with Bowl Win Over Vanderbilt

No. 23 Iowa closed the 2025 season with a statement win, knocking off No. 14 Vanderbilt in the ReliaQuest Bowl behind a clutch performance from senior quarterback Mark Gronowski. The victory snapped Iowa’s long skid against ranked opponents and served as a fitting sendoff for a senior class that chose loyalty and one last ride together.

It’s December 29, 2025, and if you can believe it, we here at KRUI actually listened to music throughout the whole year! From pop superstars, to indie legends, to the fresh Bandcamp up-and-comers, we’ve picked out nine of our favorite songs released this past year to share and explore together.

It had been 16 years since Iowa had last won at Hilton Coliseum against in-state rival Iowa State, and that win came in the 2003 NIT. The last time Iowa won a regular season Cy-Hawk game was in 2001, when the coaching matchup was Steve Alford against Larry Eustachy. That all changed on Thursday night in front of a capacity Hilton crowd. There was no question about it, from start to finish, Iowa dominated the lowly Alabama State Jaguars from the Southwest Athletic Conference. The Hawkeyes led for all 40 minutes of basketball and put a massive hurt on the boys from Montgomery in their 105-78 win on Wednesday night. “I didn’t think we would come out in any way, shape, or form not ready to play this game,” head coach Fran McCaffery said “Alabama State played Iowa State, they played South Dakota State tough and they won their two Non-[Division] ones.” The Hawkeyes started off lightning quick as they ran out … Continued

A big question mark for Iowa coming into the 2018-19 season was how much they improved defensively. Last season, the Hawkeyes were one of the worst teams defensive in the Power 6 conferences in college basketball, with only Oregon State having a worse rating according to Ken Pomeroy’s rankings. Iowa City, IA – After Wednesday’s game, there were questions as to whether or not the Iowa Hawkeye’s (12-10, 4-5) leading scorer, Peter Jok, would be able to play against the Ohio St. Buckeyes (13-9, 3-6).
