The “Duck” Hunt for Playoffs Falls Short

In a rain-soaked showdown at Kinnick Stadium, Iowa’s playoff hopes slipped away as Oregon edged the Hawkeyes 18-16 on a last-second field goal. Despite a thrilling 93-yard touchdown drive led by Mark Gronowski, the Ducks’ steady ground game and clutch kicking sealed Iowa’s heartbreak.

On Friday, November 30th, the Northern Illinois Huskies defeated #17 Kent State in the Mid-American Conference championship game. This placed them into the top 16 in Sunday’s Bowl Championship Series standings, earing them a spot in the . This is the first time ever that a team from a non-automatic qualifying conference has made it into the BCS while not being undefeated. NIU ended 12-1 with their only loss being to the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Iowa wrestling team took care of business against their in-state rivals, the Iowa State Cyclones, in their dual match at Carver-Hawkeye Arena 32-3. The Hawkeyes made it look easy by winning all but one matchup. Iowa came into the dual 6-0 and looking for a final tune-up before taking on a ranked opponent. It proved to be a successful one, and the night was dominated by the Hawkeyes, not letting up on the Cyclones and embarrassing the in-state rival who has seen a significant drop off since losing Cael Sanderson as their head coach.
