Heartland Domination: All Iowa as the Hawkeyes shutout Wisconsin, 37-0

Iowa silenced Camp Randall with a statement 37-0 shutout over Wisconsin, reclaiming the Heartland Trophy for a fourth straight year and notching their first road shutout against the Badgers since 1929. Behind Kamari Moulton’s breakout performance and a smothering defense that snagged two interceptions from defensive linemen, the Hawkeyes looked every bit like Big Ten contenders.

Concert Review: Jefferson Starship, September 21st

Jefferson Starship landed in Iowa City’s Englert Theater on Sunday the 21st of September for a spectacular show. As the show began, the projector took us through time, introducing the band’s long history and members that shaped their legacy, with pictures and videos eliciting our minds’ imagination to the past lives of the other 99% of the room. It. Was. AWESOME.

People often look at a certain draft class for a sport and they want to label it as a success or a failure. But not often to people look at an entire sports year’s class as a whole. It has been brought to attention recently because of the recent announced retirement of Ray Lewis, who is arguably the greatest linebacker of all-time. Many other athletes that made their debutes in ’96 are nearing the end of their careers as well. The ’96 class is loaded with Hall of Famers in every sport so it begs the question, is it the … Continued

The Michigan Wolverines blew out the Iowa Hawkeyes men’s basketball team 95-67 in Ann Arbor on Sunday, but one positive to take from it was the play from Gabriel Olaseni. He played 14 minutes and racked up 8 points, 2 rebounds and 1 block in the second Big Ten game for the Hawkeyes. Those stats may not jump off the page, but compared to the 5 minutes and 1.4 points per game he averaged last year it’s a progression that is very welcome and needed depth at the center position. Coming into the year most people thought the center position … Continued

I think the Hawkeyes cleared up any doubt that people had about their 11-2 start to the season, unfortunately for them, it came in a loss to nationally ranked Indiana, 69-65. The young Hawkeyes appeared ready for the #5 ranked Hoosiers right from the opening tip as Adam Woodbury shut down Cody Zeller, a potential Player of the Year candidate in the NCAA, on the first two possessions of the game.  Woodbury seemed to be a rock on the defensive end early in the game, however it was a different story on the offensive side.  He missed 2 shots from … Continued

It’s hard to imagine that this time last year the NBA was just getting underway.  Already the story lines are better than ever and we’re only about 30 games into the season.  Just five games into the season, the Lakers fire coach Mike Brown and flip L.A. the bird hiring Mike D’Antoni which has paved the way for a Pau Gasol mope fest and Kobe having a career year.  The New York Knicks seemingly limped into the Garden as the oldest team in league history and have shown that age is just another number.  The Golden State Warriors have come … Continued

Tony Romo has another opportunity. An opportunity that will ultimately define his career. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has had Romo’s back ever since he took over for Drew Bledsoe, claiming that Romo is his quarterback that will lead Dallas to a Super Bowl victory. Winning a Super Bowl isn’t easy when your team fails to make the playoffs. The quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys has another shot at redemption. The player who dons number nine has another chance to prove doubters wrong in a winner-take-all matchup. Two previous winner-take-all, week 17 games, one in 2008 vs. the Philadelphia Eagles and … Continued

Thursday morning, the Brooklyn Nets fired head coach Avery Johnson. A .500 record would be a major step forward for the New Jersey Nets but the precedent has been set that middle of the pack is not good enough for Brooklyn.
