Democrats Tour Campus to Connect with Youth Voters, KRUI Talks with Clara Reynen

This month, Johnson County Democrats are conducting “listening tours” to connect with students at the University of Iowa, consisting of various extracurricular and undergraduate-based organizations and events. The listening tour works as an open forum for students to describe their needs, goals, and priorities when it comes to both elected officials and the Democratic Party.

The “Duck” Hunt for Playoffs Falls Short

In a rain-soaked showdown at Kinnick Stadium, Iowa’s playoff hopes slipped away as Oregon edged the Hawkeyes 18-16 on a last-second field goal. Despite a thrilling 93-yard touchdown drive led by Mark Gronowski, the Ducks’ steady ground game and clutch kicking sealed Iowa’s heartbreak.

Wounding a wild animal is not a good idea because it envokes the fight or flight reaction.  Many times the animal will choose to fight for its life and the result for its attacker can be brutal. The Hawkeye softball team faced four opponents this weekend at the Miken Invitational in College Park, MD. Three of those four got the brunt of the Hawkeyes’ fight.  After St. John’s clipped Iowa’s wings 3-1 to open up the tournament, Iowa decided that it would stand its ground and fight in the next three games. Saturday night, Mexico and Canada had the WBC looking more like the WWE after a 9th inning benches clearing brawl that left multiple players on each team ejected from the game. The instigator of the fight is debatable, but the root of the fight had to do with the World Baseball Classic’s tiebreaker rule which has to do with runs scored. The Canadians were already up 9-3 at the time, but, because of the rule, attempted to put more runs on the board. This started with a bunt single in the top of the 9th by Canada’s Chris Robinson. By John Schmitt March: the time of year when the ground thaws and temperatures rise as nature prepares itself for the end of winter and the beginning of spring. Things that have lain dormant start to rise and new life comes to the forefront. March makes my engine rev, and it’s not because of the blooming flowers. This week has been pretty hectic for me.  With Spring Break just around the corner, classes are starting to pile on the work and midterms are pushing students to the brink.  But to add to the mess, my fantasy league’s trade deadline was this past Wednesday, forcing me to put down the textbooks so I could put on my GM hat and position myself for a playoff run.
