The Price of a Miracle

This is not the way it was supposed to go. Not with this team. But such is life. Grief and glee. The dichotomy of college sports.

If agreed upon by all necessary parties, Wrigley Field could have a new look in 2014. On Wednesday morning, Chicago Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts revealed early artist renderings of proposed improvements to Wrigley Field and the surrounding area. If approved by all necessary parties, construction would begin immediately following the 2013 season. The most notable improvement of the $300 million renovation is the 6,000 square foot video board positioned behind the left field stands, three times larger than the current center field scoreboard, other renovations include the kitchen and bath remodeling in St. Louis, which will be the last getting … Continued

On Sunday we posted our thoughts about the Iowa spring game. The offense won the contest 61-37. Here are the unofficial stats from the game. Stats MVP: Cody Sokol 15-20,185 yds 1TD We wrote before that Sokol was actually the third best quarterback, but by stats you can see he completed 75% of his throws, for the most yards of any of the three and one of two touchdowns through the air on the day. This race probably is still a three horse race heading into August. Stats anti-MVP: Damon Bullock, 9 att 0 yds, 1 catch, -2 yds It … Continued

The number one seeded Chicago Blackhawks were the clear favorite to win last night in their first game of the playoffs against the Minnesota Wild and stood an even better chance at getting an easy win when the Wild’s starting goalie Niklas Backstrom left the ice in pre-game warmups due to a leg injury. Josh Harding started in the goal for the Wild having played in only five games this season with a record of 1-1. Despite the disadvantage they faced from the get-go, Minnesota came out strong and took an early lead in the 1st scoring 4:48 into the … Continued

One of the most explosive athletes in professional sports, an Olympic gold medalist, Russell Westbrook doesn’t just make headlines for his on-court performances. In almost every press conference Westbrook has been known to make fashion statements. Whether it be glasses with no lenses, unique hats, or unusual shirts, he always seems to be wearing something that makes people go, “huh?”. He may not have started the trend, but he has definitely been a big influence. The likes of LeBron James and Dwayne Wade have followed suit (no pun intended) in press conferences as well. This past Sunday the Thunder announced … Continued

The Miami Heat are looking good after their first round sweep over the Milwaukee Bucks and it looks like nothing is going to hold them back. The way Miami had been playing, especially on the defensive end of the court, shows that there are no signs of slowing down. When you look at the Miami and Milwaukee series, you see the Heat won all four games by double digits. Now that the Lakers are out of the playoffs, that is one team the Heat does not have to worry about. In addition to that, Oklahoma City star point guard Russell … Continued

By Mark Freie I remember watching Tim Tebow win the Heisman Trophy in 2007 as a sophomore for the Florida Gators. At that time, like many, I thought that Tebow would be one of the best stories to ever make it into the NFL. With his persistent work ethic, open faith, and personable attitude, it seemed that Tim Tebow had it all. When Tebow was selected in the 2010 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos many, including myself, were waiting to see just what this gunslinger from Florida could do amongst the most elite football players in the world. Although … Continued

Don’t look now, but the Golden State Warriors are playing at a tenacious level. The No. 6 seed in the West looks poised to advance and play in a highly-anticipated series against the No. 2 seeded San Antonio Spurs. First things first — they still must win one more against the Denver Nuggets. With Stephen Curry running the point, that doesn’t look to be a problem. This team can run and gun with the best of them. Sunday night, the sharp-shooting  Curry, who is battling an ankle injury, took over midway through the third quarter in a tightly-contested game, scoring … Continued

The Iowa offense looked explosive at points, and they finished on a high note, outscoring the Iowa defense 61-37. The offense rotated through three groups of offense after each possession and each performed on a high level, although the group led by C.J. Beathard scored two of the three touchdowns scored on the day. The defense looked like a typical Iowa defense, with strong offensive line play and disciplined linebackers. The Iowa linebackers should be the strongest unit on the defense and showed that today with solid play from Christian Kirksey and Nico Law. Who impressed: RB Jordan Canzeri was … Continued

After Wednesday night’s victory against the Edmonton Oilers, the Chicago Blackhawks have clinched this year’s Presidents’ Trophy. The Presidents’ Trophy is awarded to the team with the most points, and hence the best team of the regular season. Even if the Blackhawks lose their remaining two games of the regular season no team can overcome them in points. Now some will rejoice this achievement, while others may not be as quick to celebrate. It makes sense to believe this is a good omen of what is to come in the playoffs. If the Blackhawks play the way they did during … Continued
