Feeling the BPM with underscores’ third studio album “U”

On a regular Thursday in March, I discovered underscores while scrolling on Tiktok. I worked my way through her discography and eventually fell down a rabbit hole of hyperpop. Her take on electronic and pop music is deeply refreshing and her captivating sound is definitely one to pay attention to.

Lindsay Lou & the Flatbellys, an original bluegrass group based out of Ann Arbor, Michigan, hit the scene at Iowa Public Radio’s Java Blend Stage November 9. The band played several tracks from their latest album, Release Your Shrouds, including favorites like “My Side of the Mountain” and “The Power.” And you could tell even from their sound check that the band is smooth. The group consists of Lindsay Rilko on rhythm guitar and vocals,  Josh Rilko on mandolin, Spencer Cain on bass, Keith Bilik on banjo, and Mark Lavengood on dobro guitar. Haley Bonar’s cool breathy folk is bringing its chill from Saint Paul, Minnesota down to Iowa City on Thursday, November 8th, hot on the heels of her released EP “Bad Reputation” which is out today on her own site at haleybonar.com where she also has 500 limited edition 7″s for sale. Concert begins at 9 PM at The Mill and tickets are $12. The show is 19+ after 10 PM.
