Early on Saturday morning, smoke and flames billowed from the back of Bruegger’s Bagels on Iowa Avenue. The fire continued throughout the morning, and at 5 a.m. the fire was still visible, although Iowa City firefighters seemed to have taken some control over the spread of the fire.
Apartments above Bruegger’s, Akar, and the Yacht Club were evacuated. Firemen were seen working throughout these buildings and on the roofs to control the flames.
