Five and a half months. 89 yards. No.37 returns to form IOWA CITY – Brandon Snyder’s season hung in the balance in April. A torn left ACL meant that he would likely be out for his entire junior season, a season in which he was expected to emerge as one of the leaders of the Hawkeye secondary. Setting his sights towards a full recovery, Snyder refused to acknowledge his entire season would be gone. He would miss time, there was no doubt about it. But he would be back. He knew he’d be back. “I don’t want to have the … Continued

IOWA CITY – The desperation was there for the Hawkeyes and they needed to deliver. Spoiler alert, they did. Iowa was 0-2 in Big Ten play entering Saturday and had something to prove against an Illini team that had struggled just as much, if not more than the Hawkeyes. Iowa pulled out an impressive 45-16 win thanks to a strong second half along with a good showing from the defense. The game looked to start off well for the Hawkeyes who forced a turnover on the first play of the game, but then quickly turned the ball over themselves. On … Continued

IOWA CITY – Putting a game like this into words is often much easier said than done, but here goes nothing. Penn State, with no time left on the clock, beat Iowa 21-19 on a seven-yard reception from Juwan Johnson. “That game is illustrative of what it takes to win in the conference,” said Iowa Head Coach Kirk Ferentz. “We’re disappointed with the loss; its going to hurt for a while, but we’ll move on.” As the game neared its close, flashes of the Michigan game from 2016 began to swirl in the heads of Hawkeye fans. Instead, the heartbreaking … Continued

Iowa Survives in 44-41 Overtime Thriller against Rival Iowa State The 2017 edition of the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Trophy Game did not disappoint whatsoever. The newest rendition of the rivalry game will go down as a classic battle between two hated rivals. While the game started off to a relatively normal 14-10 score at the halftime break, the pace quickly heated up in the second half. A slow start did not deter either team from pouring on the points in the following half. Both offenses threw the other’s defense out of the game in the second half. This being despite … Continued

AMES – Wow. Just, wow. Whether you bleed back or you bleed cardinal, this year’s Cy-Hawk game was one for the books. It wasn’t easy, but the Hawkeyes were able to escape Jack Trice Stadium with a 44-41 overtime victory Saturday. Freshman receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette caught the game-winning touchdown pass in overtime to help the Hawkeyes fend off a scare in Ames. The Hawkeyes led 14-10 at halftime thanks to a pair of touchdown passes from Nate Stanley. Nick Easley and Matt VandeBerg were on the receiving end. Out of halftime, the Iowa offense rolled down the field on a … Continued

Iowa’s new QB throws for 3 TDs in win over Wyoming IOWA CITY – It wasn’t an ideal start, but new Iowa quarterback Nate Stanley got the job done in his first career start on Saturday. After not completing a pass in the whole first quarter, Stanley settled in and connected for three touchdown passes to lead the Hawkeyes to a 24-3 win over Wyoming. “I was really impressed with him,” said Iowa Head Coach Kirk Ferentz. “He went through some tough times out there… The whole team responded to the bumps, but I thought he did too.” It certainly … Continued

Changes to the Spring Game Don’t Change the Questions about the Hawks By Ben Colin Iowa City, Iowa – Not your typical Friday night lights. First off, it’s a mild spring evening, not a chilly fall night. Second, this was a Hawkeye football game of 16,500 people instead of a local high school. Third, the final score; Gold (defense) beat Black (offense) 63-47. The high scoring affair under the lights that combined to a grand total of 110 points. The missing detail, one team scored on nearly every play, in one way or another. The Hawkeyes spring game uses an … Continued

Iowa City, Iowa – Once again Iowa footballs scheduling tactics are under fire, this time after adding Middle Tennessee to the 2019 non-conference line-up. Well known Iowa football critic and FS1 personality Colin Cowherd joined the conversation yesterday on his show ‘The Herd’. Nothing new but Colin once again brought up his ideas of Kirk Ferentz’s speed dial. The first number he’d imagine, “1-800-CREAM-PUFF”. Each year Colin ridicules Ferentz for dialing up the Northern Illinois’ and Iowa States of the world. He has a point; Iowa hasn’t put much into its non-conference schedule in recent years. In addition to Iowa … Continued

Champaign IL—Following their shocking upset of the Michigan Wolverines, the Iowa Hawkeyes traveled to take on the Illinois Fighting Illini ( 3-8,2-6). The weather, 35 degrees and wind gusts up to 28 MPH, played right into the game plan of the Hawkeyes ( 7-4, 4-3). A heavy dosage of the running attack was deployed and it did not disappoint. Both teams started out slow resulting in a scoreless first quarter. It was the specials teams unit that helped spark the Hawkeyes. Senior receiver, Riley McCarron, put the Iowa on the board when he returned a punt 55 yards for a … Continued

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The #3 ranked team in the country came into Kinnick Stadium last night as a 21+ point favorite to win the game, but don’t tell the Iowa Hawkeyes that. Keith Duncan’s 33-yard field goal as time expired lifted Iowa to a thrilling 14-13 upset victory over #3 Michigan (9-1, 6-1) as the Iowa faithful stormed the field to celebrate the team’s first home win over a ranked opponent since they beat Michigan 37-6 in 2010. “It was an incredible feeling kicking that in front of 70,000 fans,” said the freshman kicker following his first career game-winner. … Continued
