When We Were Young Recap

KRUI’s recap of When We Were Young Festival 2025 in Las Vegas. Throughout 4 stages, 53 bands tore through their sets across a 13 hour day. Here is how I spent my day at When We Were Young.

Sitting in Tampa Bay Times Forum on a Sunday evening back in December, I took in game between the New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning. In that game, Rangers star goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, in his first game back from injury, made 37 saves and the blue shirts power play went a perfect 3-3 in route to a hard fought 4-3 victory. In what may have seemed like a meaningless regular season win to many, what I saw that evening made me believe that this version of the Rangers could defy the odds and bring the Stanley Cup back to … Continued

Alas, the party is over in Pittsburgh. The brick wall that plays goaltender for the New York Rangers halted the drive to Sidney Crosby’s second Stanley Cup Tuesday, in yet another curious playoff exit for Head Coach Dan Bylsma and company. Indeed, Henrik Lundqvist was superb for his Rangers, who magnificently clawed their way out of a 3-1 series deficit to win the decisive game 7 on the road. But, where was Crosby in all of this? So promising was this season’s Penguins reincarnation, fresh off getting bulldozed by the Boston Bruins last June. After all, they did return most … Continued

Let’s cut to the chase. On Tuesday April 29th, 2-sport athlete, Jameis Winston of Florida State University, was caught stealing $32 worth of crab legs and crawfish from a Florida supermarket. For the charges to be dropped, he has to comply to the civil suite he was issued and complete at least 20 hours of community service. I’M PERFECTLY OKAY WITH HIM STEALING THE CRAB (AND CRAWFISH). Here’s why: 1. He stole the food. He wasn’t GIVEN the food by an “anonymous booster.”  The crazy thing is, I bet this would have been blown out of proportion even more if some … Continued

The Iowa baseball team churned out 13 hits against South Dakota State Friday at Duane Banks Field, but the biggest hit seemed to elude them. Iowa had bounced into inning-ending double plays in both the 9th and 10th innings, and had let numerous chances to win the game go to waste. Taylor Zeutenhorst wasn’t about to let his chance go. In the eleventh inning, Zeutenhorst drilled a game-winning single to give the Hawkeyes a 2-1 victory over South Dakota State, their third walk-off win of the season. Four Iowa pitchers combined to toss a gem of a game, allowing just … Continued

Have I mentioned I love the new playoff format before? Not because it’s easy to keep track of before the playoffs (Seth, your thoughts?) but because of the rivalries that pour kerosene on the Stanley Cup Playoff fire. Yes the Bruins haven’t played the Red Wings in the playoffs since the 50s, and there isn’t much of a conflict between Columbus and Pittsburgh, but Rangers-Flyers? Kings-Sharks? Blackhawks-Blues? It’s like the NHL took a roll of Mentos and put them all into one two-liter Diet Coke. Thus far, the chirping and hitting has been exemplary and for the most part professional … Continued
