Interview: KRUI With The Plain White T’s

At When We Were Young 2025, fellow Chicago area natives Plain White T’s sat down with me as we discussed how the local scene has changed, their tour with We The Kings, and how Las Vegas scares us all the slightest bit. We started the conversation out by sharing a mutual love of Death Cab for Cutie:

SCOPE Productions is delighted to announce that Zeds Dead will be performing in the IMU Main Lounge on Wednesday, November 28. Doors open at 7 pm, and the show will begin at 8 pm. Zeds Dead have been combining the intensity of dubstep and electronica with their passion for “dig-through-the-crates” hip-hop sampling since 2004, brewing an intense, full-bodied sound that’s as fun and fresh as it is haunting and elegant. The show will take place at the Pentacrest Lawn on Friday, September 28th immediately following the Homecoming parade. This event is free and open to the public. Rousing audiences into mass dance parties with only drums and a keyboard, New York City indie poppers Matt Johnson and Kim Schifino have catapulted from humble Brooklyn beginnings to hard-earned international stardom. Their spunky, groove-heavy aesthetic, vividly demonstrated on hits like “Cameras” and “Daylight,” is as infectiously danceable as … Continued

By Christian Craig Hip hop has, in recent years, evolved into a beast of over-accessibility. The fabled street corner has been replaced by a SoundCloud account and it often seems that anyone with a Logic torrent is busy tweeting about their upcoming mixtape. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing – Odd Future, Main Attrakionz and A$AP Rocky all owe their fame to the Internet and it’s becoming increasingly easier to suss out the next big thing. It’s also getting harder to keep up – trends in sub-genres have the shelf life of about an hour and whether you’re a fan … Continued
