James Morris entered the season as a senior team captain. He showed why Saturday afternoon at Kinnick Stadium.
Morris is on the Bednarik and Butkus watch list, along with many possible Big Ten honors to come. He had a critical fumble recovery when Northwestern was driving inside Iowa’s 40. He kept coming with constant pressure on the QB, illustrated by his two sacks in Saturday’s game.
After his his career at Iowa ends, he’ll be talked about with some of the great linebackers like Tippett, Station, and Hodge. He will also have the chance to play on Sunday along with former Hawkeyes like Bulaga, Greenway, Angerer, and Yanda.
Right now, Morris and the defense is going to go out every Saturday and give their offense the best chance to win games. People say defense wins games and I agree with that because if the defense can control field position if gives the offense the freedom of the playbook and use energized fans as a 12th man to rattle opposing offenses.
