After a brilliant performance in Fairfield last summer, KRUI welcomes Elephant Micah back to Iowa as the first installment of 2011’s Low Frequency Series.
Elephant Micah, the songwriting project of Indiana-based Joe O’Connell, is the definition of “low frequency.” Approaching the tenth year of the project, Elephant Micah has crafted a body of work that’s inexplicably been ignored by the greater music industry. The recordings are murky and lo-fi, but the guitar work is brilliant and his haiku-like lyrics deliver a sense of clarity amidst personal confusion. Despite praise from NPR, a tour with Jason Molina and a beautiful cover by Dark Dark Dark, comparisons to Jandek are still frequently drawn for his persistent, yet undeserved, obscurity.
Fans of The Microphones/Mount Eerie, Cass McCombs, and Dark Dark Dark should rejoice.
Douglas Kramer Nye will be the fill the bill starting at 8 PM, displaying a collection of dark folk songs that can save your soul, while also condemning it.
