Concert Review: State Champs @ House of Blues Chicago 3/1/19

It’s finally March, so you know what that means: spring tours are starting to kick off. I started the month off right by seeing one of my favorite bands, State Champs. I was so excited for this day to come. The lineup was stacked — State Champs, Our Last Night, The Dangerous Summer, and Grayscale. … Continued

Mood Ring: Nostalgia

It’s hard to really describe the feeling of nostalgia. The dictionary definition recounts it as “a sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations.” Everyone has different triggers which throw them back into that universal sense of melancholia. You may hear a song and be … Continued

Iowa silences noisy Illini in tournament opener, 83-62

Many weren’t sure what to expect from the Hawkeyes in their opening game of the 2019 Big Ten Tournament. Since Fran McCaffery took over, the Hawkeyes had a record of only 3-8 in Big Ten tournament play and had been the only team in the conference that had failed to reach the quarterfinals since 2014. … Continued

Album Review: Wasteland, Baby!

Wasteland, Baby! is full of references and asides to pop culture, politics and the spirit of survival. However you may choose to embrace or reject the void, there’s a track to speak to the contradictions of fear and hope, love and loneliness, anger and joy that buoy us from day to day. Support KRUI’s Future!

Tonight, March 12th at 7pm the University of Iowa Student Government is discussing and voting on a bill which will provide KRUI funding to replace our equipment if it is passed.

KRUI is Iowa City’s premiere source for the latest in independent and local music. We also have an extensive library of older indie, pop, rock, electronic, hip hop, jazz, folk… you name it, it’s represented. Along with this prodigious selection of music, we also feature many specialty shows that focus on specific genres and eras. As long as it’s not commercial, it’s fair game for KRUI.

KRUI accepts music submissions from anyone with recordings. Whether you’re an unsigned band, a small label, a major label, or just a few kids playing around in the basement – if you play good music, we’ll give it a listen and consider it for airplay.

To submit music for airplay, just send it to KRUI at the address below. We accept all forms of media but CDs or vinyl are the best route to take. Please ensure your meets our submission guidelines:

  • – To be considered for airplay, your submission must be in one of the following formats: cassette, CD, or vinyl. Due to the way we currently operate, we cannot directly broadcast MP3s/other digital audio.
  • – Send us a little information. We don’t need much – just a little info explaining who you are and where you came from. This is particularly applicable to bands who are trying to break into college radio without the help of a promotion company. A little info can mean a lot.
  • – Please include a track list and make sure to note which tracks contain swearing/obscenities. That will help us know if/when we can play your music.
  • – It’s helpful for you to include a CD jewel case with your release. It makes it much easier for DJs to find and play your CD if it’s properly packaged and marked. Album art and liner notes help your music stand out from the rest of the pack.

Unfortunately, media submitted to us cannot be returned (due to shipping costs). For more information, you can contact the Music Director using the information below.

We do our best to respond to all tracking inquiries, but due to the volume of email we receive, we cannot guarantee a response. Thank you for understanding.
