KRUI is Iowa City’s premiere source for the latest in independent and local music. We also have an extensive library of older indie, pop, rock, electronic, hip hop, jazz, folk… you name it, it’s represented. Along with this prodigious selection of music, we also feature numerous specialty shows that focus on specific genres and eras. As long as it’s not commercial, it’s fair game for KRUI.
KRUI accepts music submissions from anyone with recordings. If you’re an unsigned band, a small label, a major label or just a few kids playing around in the basement – if you play good music, we’ll give it a listen and consider it for airplay.
To submit music for airplay just send it to KRUI at the address below. We accept most media but CDs or vinyl are the best route to go. As we’re not able to visit the website of every band that e-mails us, nor are we interested in downloading MP3s, we will only accept tangible media for airplay. A few notes for those submitting music to KRUI for airplay:
- It’s helpful for you to include a CD jewel case with your release. It makes it much easier for DJs to find and play your CD if it’s properly packaged and marked.
- Think of submitting music for airplay like a job application – gross misspellings in e-mails and harassing the music director with a deluge of e-mails or phone calls won’t get you very far, but being nice and courteous will go a long way.
- Send us a little information. We don’t need much – just a little info explaining who you are and where you came from. This is particularly applicable to bands who are trying to break into college radio without the help of a promotion company. A little info can mean a lot.
