Unlike most of my counterparts who are living easy stress-free lives, I am not. If you were to ask me why, I would say something sarcastic along the lines of myself living in a constant state of stress, but that’s beside the point.
Anyway, with both my social and academic life battling it out over obligations that I must meet, sadly, I have not been able to attend any cool events in town despite the mass amount of recommendations I have received; however, I do have some events that I am just willing to ditch my social and academic reasoning to attend.
With that said, check out exactly what those events are below!

What: Dance Gala 2017
When: November 10th (8 PM)
Where: Hancher Auditorium
Price: $5 – $20
The Dance Gala is back to celebrate its return to Hancher with compelling dances from the highly-acclaimed Department of Dance right here at the University of Iowa. Speaking from personal experience, when I attended this event last year, I lived for every second of it. The performances were something beyond this world and I am excited to experience it once again. Come out and experience both humor and athleticism choreographed by award-winning artist Monica Bill Barnes. With Barnes, I can almost guarantee that we will see nothing less than perfection.
I’m sure this is a show you won’t forget so buy your tickets soon because I hear they go fast.
What: Jack Quartet with University of Iowa Composers
Where: Voxman Music Building, Concert Hall
When: November 15th (7:30 PM)
Prince: Free
Who doesn’t listen to a little bit of classical music when they’re studying?
If you don’t, then you need to get your life in order. Just kidding, who am I to judge.
Anyway, come out and listen to a collection of classical songs with JACK Quartet and composers from the University of Iowa. Not to mention that it will be held at the brand-new music building. If that doesn’t get you excited, then I don’t know what will.
What: The Cultural Showcase
When: November 16th (10 PM – 12 AM)
Where: 2nd Floor Ballroom in the Iowa Memorial Room (IMU)
Price: Free Admission (Seats Limited)
I saw this little gem plastered on a street pole and I just couldn’t help myself to stop and check it out.
Hosted by Campus Activates Board (CAB), come out and enjoy cultural performances hosted by various student organizations on campus. Thinking back to the 2015 edition of the showcase, I bet we can expect fascinating performances from extreme martial arts to Bollywood fusion and anything in between. One thing is certain, however, is that the event will be a showstopper.
For those out there who are recipients of the Advantage Iowa Scholarship (AI), you’re in luck because this counts as an event for you.

While I know that I will be in attendance for all three events mentioned above, I hope to see some of you there. If not, maybe next time. If never, that’s fine too. Don’t let me tell you how to live your life.
