After a long winter, with hopefully only a few more weeks of cold weather, Major League Baseball is beginning. Pitchers and catchers report first, followed by position players. Namely, Chicago Cubs pitchers and catchers report February 13, and position players report on the 18th. For the past two seasons, the Iowa Hawkeyes basketball team has had numerous close losses.  In many of those losses, they were winning for much of the game, and couldn’t hold on.  They had similar games this past week against Michigan State and Illinois.  On Tuesday, the Hawkeyes had yet another chance to get a signature victory, and they couldn’t quite pull it off, losing 71-69 in overtime despite leading for much of the second half.  Then came Saturday’s game against a struggling Illinois team.  Iowa needed a win  to stay with Michigan and Michigan State (both 8-1) in the … Continued

The Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team have made the NCAA Tournament in six consecutive seasons, including all three during Nebraska’s time in the Big Ten. But the Hawkeyes have not been able to figure out the riddle that is the Cornhuskers. Iowa lost to Nebraska for the seventh consecutive time Saturday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, dropping a 80-67 decision to the Huskers. The loss dropped the Hawkeyes to 5-4 in Big Ten play, tied for fourth in the conference.
