This is going to be interesting. Recently inspired by Mark Freie’s article, debating the legitimacy of NASCAR as a sport, I began to wonder, is one of my favorite guilty pleasures considered a sport? It all started as a kid. My brother had WWF Monday Night Raw on the television, and I saw the red, masked monster my brother referred to as Kane. For some reason, I was completely hooked. Maybe it was the mystery behind his mask, but it was probably that he put people through tables. Needless to say I was hooked for years. From there, learning the truth … Continued

With many already giving Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning the National Football League’s most valuable player award, it is forgotten just how important Saints quarterback Drew Brees has been. It’s not much of a surprise for the MVP award to go to a quarterback, and this season will most likely continue that trend.  Manning has had an incredible year for the Broncos, and does beat Brees in terms of statistics.  As far as most valuable player goes, it feels that the Broncos would still have a good year without Manning as the quarterback – obviously not an excellent year like … Continued

The long awaited return of Derrick Rose was finally upon us, and it seemed as if he was finally starting to get back into his groove. Said The Whale is using  another way to express something young adults all have chances to face in college life, a turning point in life. Said The Whale is an indie rock band from Vancouver,  which started in 2007. They started with releasing EPs, gaining popularity and then touring the US. They recently released their fourth studio album, Hawaii. This album consists different kinds of rock, … Continued

As most of the State of Iowa knows by now, Iowa and Iowa State men’s basketball teams will face off December 13th on ESPNU. An interesting tidbit is that the dorms in Iowa City don’t actually get ESPNU, so I’d make plans accordingly to see this can’t miss game. Below is a break down of the teams and looking forward. Iowa Iowa has coasted through their non-conference schedule so far outside of the Nebraska-Omaha game. They have put up at least 80 points in every game. They are just outside the rankings of the AP top 25 poll. Iowa is … Continued
