Johnson dismissed from football

Sophomore running back for the Iowa Hawkeyes De’Andre Johnson has been dismissed from the team, Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz said Wednesday.

Johnson was suspended Sunday upon earning two tickets in the past week.

Johnson played four games in 2011, rushing 18 times for 79 yards.

According to reports Johnson received a ticket for eluding arrest after being ticketed for speeding on Saturday. Just two days earlier, Johnson was ticketed again after countless  noise complaints were reported to the Iowa City police. Johnson received a ticket for maintaining a disorderly house.

Former running backs Marcus Coker and Mika’il McCall left Iowa earlier. Hawkeye running backs that remain on the team are sophomore Damon Bullock, and incoming freshman Greg Garmon and Barkley Hill.

Young boy nearly kidnapped in Cedar Rapids

A Cedar Rapids man reported to police that three people tried to abduct his 5-year-old son Tuesday evening.

The father of the boy reported to officers Wednesday that he was riding his motorcycle on a street around 5:30pm Tuesday. He was trailing his son who was riding a bicycle on a sidewalk.

According to the father, the perpetrators were driving a white Chevy Astro van. The van pulled up next to his son and stopped. Two people, a man and a woman, exited the vehicle, snatched the boy and his bike and began forcing him toward the van.

Cedar Rapids police were notified of the incident 3 hours later.

The Waterloo Courier newspaper reported that police in Evansdale were looking into the case with intent on finding information that will lead to the abduction of Elizabeth Collins and Lyric Cook.

Collins and Cook were abducted from that eastern Iowa town on July 13. The case remains open.
