Show Review: Walk the Moon

By Eric Intlekofer

Walk the Moon’s set at the Blue Room at the Blue Moose Tap House proved that they are a band you will be hearing from in the future. Following their appearances at this year’s Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza, they’ve embarked on a nationwide tour in support of their debut album I Want! IWant! and have been gaining recognition as an upcoming indie-pop act.

Despite there being fewer people than I expected at the show, the Cincinnati quartet hit the stage with the typical enthusiasm one can expect from their energetic performances. The floor of the Blue Room was throbbing as those who made it out danced to the harmonic and catchy tunes. They went through most of the songs on their debut album and the crowd was especially happy to hear the single “Anna Sun.”

This was the band’s first time in Iowa and they seemed overjoyed with the positive vibes and interaction from the crowd. Due to the fact that the band doesn’t have a wide catalog of songs yet they indulged the crowd in a fantastic cover of the Talking Head’s “Burning Down the House” which seemed to peak the already lively crowd. Despite a shorter set the band effectively started out the Saturday nights of all the people in attendance. You can almost be certain Walk the Moon will be making their way back through Iowa City although next time they’ll likely be downstairs.
