Baseball and basketball highlight the first weekend of April, but if you want to take a short road trip, you can also catch some track and field.

On Campus:

Let’s play three for Big Ten opener. The Iowa baseball team will look to warm up the bats and warm up Duane Banks Field as they take on Michigan State on Friday (6:05), Saturday (1:05), and Sunday (1:05). Iowa needs to get back in the win column as they’ve lost two in a row and five of the last seven. Michigan State will put up a challenge, at 15-6 the Spartans boast the best record in the Big Ten. The games can also be heard on AM 800.

Off Campus:

Track and field hits the highway. If you can make it to Pella Iowa, located roughly between Des Moines and Iowa City, check out the Hawkeye Track and Field team competing at the Central Invite.  Iowa is splitting competitors between Pella and Baton Rouge LA for the LSU Invite.  The Central Invite is scheduled for all day, so you can catch a snippet,  or hang out for the whole event.

Watch and Listen.

Saturday night Special: Final Four. Whether they should have been in the tourney or not, at 5:00 (CT) upstart VCU takes on last year’s cinderella Butler.  On the other side of the bracket, you’ve got two team with just a bit more history, as Kentucky tries to break into the championship game against UConn at 7:45 (CT).  The two winners will meet on Monday night, all the games are on CBS.

Return of Sunday Night Baseball. ESPN will kick off it’s weekly games with a divisional game between the World Series Champion San Francisco Giants and the LA Dodgers.  The game will be the last of a four game series to start the season.  LA won the first game on Thursday riding the young arm of Clayton Kershaw who out-dueled Cy Young winner Tim Linecum.
